Santos Escobar turned heel on Rey Mysterio and thus cemented himself as one of the biggest heels in the WWE. Rey Mysterio has been one of the biggest faces in WWE history and anyone who attacks him becomes one of the most hated men in WWE. Dominik Mysterio is the perfect example as since turning heel his career trajectory has been going up. Rey Mysterio looked at Santos Escobar as his successor and he was grooming him to take his place as the Lucha star in WWE. Rey Mysterio has recently had surgery in his knee and he will be out for 2-3 months meaning he will be back for WrestleMania.

Rey Mysterio vs Santos Escobar will be personal and an emotional story
Rey Mysterio formed the LWO with Santos Escobar, Zelina Vega and The rest of Legado Del Fantazma. The LWO was a very popular group in WWE and they recently added Carlito in their group. Rey Mysterio was the leader and all the other members were willing to learn from the greatest and they were willing to become much better wrestlers and make this group the most loved one in WWE. Santos Escobar was the closest to Rey Mysterio as Rey saw his successor in Santos Escobar. He was someone who was being personally groomed and they even formed a tag team together. Everything was going great until the time Carlito returned back to WWE and joined the group.
The joining of Carlito made Santos Escobar feel like he was no longer the most important part of LWO after Rey Mysterio. Santos Escobar felt that Carlito was taking his place as he and Rey knew each other since a lot of years. This kept getting in the heart of Santos Escobar and he did not let anyone in the group know , even his friends including Zelina Vega. Then it was time for the United States Championship match between Rey Mysterio vs Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel. In this match it was looking like Rey Mysterio was going to win and then Logan Paul was planning to use brass knuckles and then Santos Escobar and to ringside and he took the brass knuckles and put it in the ring. Logan Paul used those and won the United States Championship. This looked suspicious to the WWE fans as to why would Santos Escobar just leave the brass knuckles in the ring.
On SmackDown, Carlito confronted Santos Escobar with this question and as a result he snapped and attached Rey Mysterio viciously. He banged his knee in the steel steps. Rey Mysterio was out of WWE and he has had knee surgery and Rey Mysterio is looking for revenge. When he returns then it will be personal as Rey Mysterio would want to end the career of Santos Escobar. It would be the mentor Rey Mysterio against the student Santos Escobar. The rest of LWO will have to pick a side. It looks like this will all build to WrestleMania where it could be a tag team match between Santos Escobar and Legado Del Fantazma vs Rey Mysterio, Bad Bunny and another partner. Zelina Vega will have an important role to play in this story going forward.
