The first year of the WPL is coming to a close and it has been a very successful league where the top batters and Bowlers in the world have come together to give the fans some amazing cricket and get a lot of new eyeballs on the product and women’s cricket has been changed forever for the better . And the WPL is here to stay for years.

With a league of this magnitude being played and the most amount of pressure on these players there are going to be some young players that have shined throughout the league and they have set themselves up for bigger things in the future for India as well as other nations. Getting to learn from the best in the world will be invaluable for them. 

So, let’s look at the Top 5 Young Players in WPL 2023:


1) Saika Ishaque – Mumbai Indians



She is without a doubt the find of the WPL and she has made herself a star in these 3 weeks by her left arm spin bowling and she has got the best batters in the world out like Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy etc. She has played 8 Matches so far in the WPL and has taken 13 wickets so far with 1 match still to go tomorrow. Saika Ishaque was brought at just 10 lakhs and it us another example of Mumbai Indians scouting team which found her. She will very soon play for the Indian team replacing some of the more experienced players. She has played plenty of domestic cricket starting from the Under 19 and Under 23 Bengal teams and then she played for the Bengal senior team .


2) Tara Norris – Delhi Capitals



Tara Norris was the only player from an associate nation to play in the WPL as she represented the USA and she was here to prove a point that more associate players should play in the biggest league in the world. Tara Norris was also brought by the Delhi Capitals for 10 lakh and in the first match that she played in the WPL against RCB, she took a 5 Wicket haul in she got the wickets of Elysse Perry, Heather Knight, Sophie Devine and in total she has taken 7 wickets in the WPL and she will be a bigger star in the years to come. Tara Norris has been playing from 2014 where she first played for Sussex and then has been playing for the Southern Brave in the Hundred competition in England since 2021.


3) Shreyanka Patil - Royal Challengers Bangalore



Shreyanka Patil is truly one of the most exciting players that have emerged from the WPL and RCB was the perfect team for her and she was also brought by then for 10 lakh and she has shown with both the bat and ball that she is a special talent. She has taken 6 Wickets in total which included the likes of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. She also made 62 runs in the league but it was the reverse sweeps and the scoops that she played so fearlessly that caught the eye of everyone. She is also a domestic veteran as she has played for the Under 16 and Under 19 Karnataka teams as well as the Karnataka senior team. She has also represented India A in tours.


4) Alice Capsey – Delhi Capitals



Probably the youngest player in the WPL and she is one of the most exciting young players in the world and she has been a find in this tournament and she was bought by Delhi Capitals for 70 Lakh. She has scored 159 runs in 8 Matches she still there is the final to go and she has a strike rate of over 150 and she can hit sixes for fun and she is also a very handy off spinner and she has taken 6 important wickets in the tournament and is a very important reason why Delhi Capitals are in the final. In the years to come she will be one of the biggest superstars in world cricket. Alice Capsey has been playing since 2019 and she started playing for Surrey and since 2021 she has been playing for the Oval Invincibles in the 100 as well as Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash in Australia.


5) Dayalan Hemalatha - Gujarat Giants



The 5th player in this list is a player that very few people knew about before the start of the WPL and she is a very young player who wanted to make a name for herself and Gujarat Giants have her the opportunity when they brought her for 10 lakhs. In the 8 Matches she has made 151 runs for her team with a half century as well in the last league match vs the UP Warriorz and she has a bright future for the franchise as well as for India. She is a classical batter but she can hit big sixes easily and has a strike rate of over 130. She has been playing since 2011 and she has played for Tamil Nadu and since 2020 she has also been playing for the Railways in India’s domestic competition.
