During the opening day of the five-match Test series between the hosts India and the visitors England, which is also a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025, Indian spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja set up a new history in Indian Test cricket. Ashwin-Jadeja became the most successful Indian Test bowling pair.
Hyderabad is hosting the opening game of the five-match India vs England 2023/24 Test series. After England chose to bat first, they were all out for 246 runs. Once again, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and the left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja shined with the ball as both picked up crucial six wickets in the first innings.

Off-spinner Ashwin ended that innings with the bowling figures 21-1-68-3. Meanwhile, the left-arm spinner Jadeja had the bowling figures 18-4-88-3. With those six wickets, Ashwin-Jadeja has combinedly collected 506 Test wickets (don’t be confused with their total Test career wickets).

During that first innings, Ashwin-Jadeja surpassed the former Indian spin duo Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh to become the most successful bowling pair combination in Indian Test cricket history. Previously, Kumble-Harbhajan held that record with 501 Test wickets.
