Wimbledon Championships 2024 was a tournament which saw some of the highest quality tennis from all the players. This tournament was just before the Olympics yet the tennis players wanted to give their all because this is the most prestigious Grand Slam of the year. There were some new stars and some who showed that they were not a flash in the pan and that they are here to rule for years to come. The Women’s side of the tournament has been the most open in history.

Men’s Singles Winner - Carlos Alcaraz

The Men’s Singles is the draw that has a lot of good players but only a select few can reach the pinnacle. Carlos Alcaraz won his 2nd Wimbledon Championship in a row. He is only 21 years old and his best years are ahead of him. It was Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic for the second year running. However this year Carlos Alcaraz showed that it is his time now. He beat the greatest Novak Djokovic in 3 sets. He won the first 2 sets by 6-2 and 6-2. The 3rd set was a close one but Carlos Alcaraz was playing at a different level and he won the set 7-6 on a tie break. Carlos Alcaraz also beat Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert and Francis Tiafoe to win his 4th Grand Slam and he also became the 6th male Tennis player to win the French Open and Wimbledon In the same year.


Women’s Singles Winner - Barbara Krejokova

The Women’s Singles side of the tournament was the most open draw of the championships. The final was between the number 7 seed vs the number 31 seed. It was between Barbara Krejokova vs Jasmine Paolini. Barbara Krejokova beat her opponent in 3 sets. She won the match 6-2, 2-6 and 6-4. Barbara Krejokova beat the number 4 seed Elena Rybakina in the semi final by 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4. The number 2 seed Coco Gauff was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Emma Navarro. Emma Raducanu of England reached the Round of 16. This was her comeback after a long injury layoff. The world number 1 Iga Swiatek was eliminated in the 3rd round by Yulia Putintseva. Any player can beat the other on any given day.

The Men’s Doubles final was one of the best finals of the tournament. All 3 sets went to tie breaks. It was between the number 15 seeds Max Purcell and Jordon Thompson vs Harri Heliovara and Henry Patten. And the unseeded team beat the number 15 seeds and won the match by 6-7, 7-6 and 7-6. In the semi final the champions beat the number 9 seed Michael Venus and Neil Skupski. And the number 15 seeds beat the number 1 seed in the semi final. They beat Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. This was also an unpredictable draw and for the unseeded team to win it all shows how strong the men’s doubles competition is.

The Women’s Doubles side of the tournament was between the best. As the number 4 seed took on the number 2 seed in the final. It was between number 4 seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova vs Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe who were the number 2 seed. This was 2 sets but it was the closest margins as the number 4 seeds won both the sets in a tie break by 7-6 and 7-6. The doubles tournament was seeing much more closer sets in the finals which shows every team is as good as the other. Barbara Krejokova was a doubles Grand Slam champion and this year she has won the singles title. This should be an inspiration for all these women.
