The third grand slam of the year, the Wimbledon Championships is upon us, scheduled from July 1. This will be the 142nd edition of the tournament, further cementing its legacy in the books of tennis.

Andy Murray along with the 'Big 3' have been dominating the Wimbledon as they share the title between them since 2003. Roger Federer has conquered 8 titles in the last 15 years followed by Novak Djokovic, who won 3 titles with Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray conquering the title twice.

The Wimbledon 2019 might not feature Andy Murray in singles as he is making a comeback after a hip surgery following the Australian Open, earlier this year. However, the Brit is scheduled to play doubles at the All England Club.

The 'Big 3', however, will enter the Championships 2019 as favorites but there are some other players who can give a hard time to the 'Big 3'. Let's take a look at the top contenders to lift the Wimbledon 2019 title in the men's side.

Novak Djokovic

The world no. 1, Novak Djokovic will enter the Championships 2019 as the defending champion. He won the last three out of four grand slam titles and is looking in a splendid form. Novak Djokovic fell short of Dominic Thiem in the semifinals of the Roland Garros 2019 in a thrilling five-setter. However, the Serbian will still enter Wimbledon 2019 as the favorite to win the title.

The 15-time grand slam champion has won three titles at the All England Club and has shown some promising performances in the past. The next-gen stars can give a hard time to the 32-year-old but he can never be cut out of the match. Novak Djokovic is certainly one of the top contenders to win the Wimbledon 2019 title.

Rafael Nadal

Just like the past three years, Rafael Nadal tore up the clay court swing, winning the French Open title for the third consecutive time. After reaching the finals of the Australian Open 2019, Nadal did not have the best of the season as he was dealing with injuries.

He did not win a title until the Italian Open 2019 for the first time since 2004. However, the 'King of Clay' was back in action at the Roland Garros as he won a record 12th title at the Parisian Clay. Nadal has taken a break from tennis after a tiring clay court season and will return to the Championships without any match practice on the grass like he did last year. He was 1 point away to reach the finals of Wimbledon 2018 but was defeated by the eventual winner, Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-setter.

Roger Federer

The 20-time grand slam champion has won 8 Wimbledon titles in the past 15 years and can never be ignored at the All England Club. Roger Federer has started to play aggressive tennis from the last two years and has shown some promising performances in the bigger tournaments.

Roger Federer will not enter the Wimbledon Championships as a favorite this year with the likes of Novak Djokovic and some dark horses who always make upsets on the English grass court. However, Roger Federer has the experience and skill to beat anyone in the world. He has won the most number of Wimbledon titles and this can never be ignored in any tennis tournament whatsoever.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The next-gen star has shown some incredible performances in the last one year. He has beaten the 'big 3', Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic on three different surfaces at the age of 20 only.

He lost to Stan Wawrinka in a thrilling five-setter in the round of 16 at the French Open 2019. However, with his aggressive style and fierce one-handed backhand, he can beat anyone in the world. He will not enter the Wimbledon 2019 as a favorite to conquer the title but he is certainly one of the contenders to reach the last stages of the tournament and also conquer the title if he increases his level in the bigger points against the top guys.

Stan Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka in one of the only few guys to win three grand slam titles in an era which is dominated by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. He knows what it takes to win a major title. Wawrinka was defeated by his compatriot Roger Federer on the Parisian clay in the quarterfinals. However, the Swiss will enter the Championships 2019 with an aim of completing his career grand slam.

He will become the first man in the open era out the 'Big 3' to conquer the career grand slam. Wawrinka is certainly not the favorite to win the title as his form has dropped in the past year due to injury and his best performance at the All England Club is reaching the quarterfinals. However, he is slowly making a comeback and can certainly improve his performance at Wimbledon 2019. Wawrinka has assuredly the strongest player when it comes to mind games and certainly knows how to hold nerves at the bigger stages.
