Wimbledon 2019 has officially begun and on its very first day, big names such as Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka were knocked out. Unlike Men, there are no particular favourites when it comes to Ladies singles, as all the top female players are neck and neck to each other and all the games are going to be competitive, and on any given day anyone can defeat any player. We are in store for a roller coaster 2 weeks of exciting tennis at Wimbledon this year. Here are the top 5 Ladies that can lift the iconic Venus Rosewater dish trophy on 13th July.

1. Ashleigh Barty

The current world number 1 player and the French Open champion Ashleigh Barty has to be the Favourite to win Wimbledon this year. The Australian is coming to Wimbledon this year in red hot form and will be looking to clinch her maiden Wimbledon Title. Barty has already won 3 WTA titles this season and also ended up winning last week at Birmingham on grass, and showed that her game is versatile and she can even win on grass. World number one’s strongest asset has to be her backhand slice, which will prove to be a lethal weapon on the grass. She has never progressed into the second round at Wimbledon and will be looking to improve her record at Wimbledon. She shocked everyone after winning the title at Roland Garros, and if she continues to her best tennis she might end up winning Wimbledon too.

2.Serena Williams

When it’s Wimbledon no one can underestimate the 7 times Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams. Last year Serena lost in the Finals of the championship and this year, she will be looking to go one step ahead and win her Title number 8 at SW19. The legendary tennis players may not be at the peak of her prowess and is not coming into Wimbledon this year in the best of form but all that can change, as Serena’s style of play is most suited for grass. Her Rocket Serve and big forehand can decimate anyone on her day. Her experience will also count and she will be looking to find her feet early this year in the initial rounds and be at her best in the business end of the tournament. Watch out for Serena this year, as great champions like her always find a way to win at big stages.

3.Petra Kvitova

This has been a decent year for Kvitova as she has won titles at Sydney and Stuttgart at the start of 2019. The Czech was forced to Withdraw from the French Open this year, due to an arm injury and will be coming to Wimbledon without playing any warmup tournaments. But Kvitova has shown in the past that once she escapes the initial few rounds she can go all the way. She has already been the champion at Wimbledon two times in 201 and 2014 and has always found her best form on the grass of Wimbledon. Her lefty angle makes it difficult for her opponents to return her serve and she takes advantage of that by serving wide of her opponents. If she is healthy and injury free during the course of the tournament, the Czech will be a major force at Wimbledon this year.

4.Angelique Kerber

The defending Champion Kerber as to be in the top 5 picks to win Wimbledon this year as she has always played well at SW19. Last year she defied the odds and defeated Serena Williams in the finals and showed everyone that she has a big game temperament and has the ability to go toe to toe against the very best. However, the reason she is not in the top three this year is because of her up and down form this year. But the star German player will be looking to defend her title and will be looking to maintain her strong record at Wimbledon this year.

5.Johanna Konta

This might surprise a few as coming in at number 5 is the home favourite Johanna Konta. Few days before the tournament even the great John McEnroe, believed that Konta has the potential to win Wimbledon this year and end the long 42 years wait of a British Female champion. She has not won any Grand Slam in her Career yet, but she reached the semi finals of Roland Garros one month back that will boost her confidence and with the fans behind her, Konta can very well become champion at Wimbledon.
