This is an interesting debate to be had since the FIFA World Cup is upon us in a month and these 2 events are the biggest in the world and nothing comes close to these 2. The FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event which is played over 1 sport because 192 nations play the Qualifying Matches throughout the 4 years between the World Cups and hence the 32 teams that qualify for the tournament are the best teams in the world.
The Olympics are the biggest sporting event in the world when it comes to multi-sport events because 206 nations take part in these multi-sport events and all nations want to do well in these because the prestige of the nation is at stake. So, now let’s take a look at which is the biggest one out of the 2.
FIFA World Cup
First we will talk about these 2 events individually and then we will compare and so we will start with the FIFA World Cup. This is the pinnacle of football in the world and since Football is the most popular sport in the world and it’s not even close and this is the grand daddy in football hence the entire world watches it and is emotional about it. The FIFA World Cup happens every 4 years hence the prestige and intrigue of the event is sacred even now. 32 teams play the World Cup when it finally happens out of 192.
The Olympics
The Olympics just like the FIFA World Cup happens every 4 years as well so the prestige of that event is also sacred. For most of the athletes who compete in sports like Shooting, Badminton, Archery, Athletics, Swimming, Wrestling etc Tha Olympics is the biggest event of them all and aa I said before the nations take this as a prestige issue and train for the full 4 years so that they can win more Medals. Football is also there in The Olympics.

Which one is the biggest?
This is a very tough choice to make because both are incredible sporting events that have the entire world watching at every moment that happens. Both are played by almost 200 nations and the best of the best take part in it. However, for me The Olympics has 50 sports that happen during the Games and more than 11,000 athletes get a chance to participate in these disciplines and even the nations who are not able to take part in the FIFA World Cup, they can excel in The Olympics. That is not to say that the FIFA World Cup is not big but it is the second biggest sporting event for me as it deals with 1 sport whereas The Olympics has 50.
