AEW held their first show in a country which was not the USA or UK. They held the Grand Slam Australia in Brisbane. There were over 10,000 fans and they were loud throughout the show. This was the first time that these fans were getting to see some of the best in the world. There were 5 Matches on this show.

Will Osperay and Kenny Omega beat Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher
The Australian fans were loud and they welcomed the four wrestlers with a This Is Awesome chant even before the match started. This was a 24 minute tag team clinic. Will Osperay and Kyle Fletcher started the match and these two men hate each other. Kenny Omega tagged into the Match and the fans went crazy. They were hitting moves from the top rope and the heels were in control for much in the match. Kenny Omega hit a Cross body which looked great. Will Osperay showed his high flying skills. All four men were selling this match and in the end it was the team of Will Osperay and Kenny Omega that got the win. This was another 5 star match for the talent involved. This will lead to Will Osperay vs Kyle Fletcher at Revolution.
Mercedes Mone beat Hayley Cameron for TBS Championship
Hayley Cameron was having the biggest match of her life in front of her home fans. The fans give her a raucous ovation. They booed Mercedes Mone. This was a match which was a showcase for the young Hayley Cameron. She used the puppet of Mercedes Mone to taunt her but Mone is too experienced for these tricks. She ripped the puppet and then hit her finisher to win the match. The crowd was unhappy about the result. However this match also proved that Hayley Cameron needs to get a little better to win a championship in AEW. These two women got 13 minutes and Mercedes Mone helped make a new star.
Death Riders beat Jay White and Cope in a Brisbane Brawl Match
The third match of the show was the match between four men who are the cornerstones of the company. The World Champion Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli are the Death Riders. Jay White got a good reaction but it was Cope with the reception of the night. The 10,000 strong sang his theme song in unison which made Cope emotional. This was a No DQ match and anything goes. These men used weapons such as chairs and they threw each other through tables. Cope was the star as he took risky bumps. Wheeler Yuta tried to help the Death Riders but was taken out. These men had 15 minutes and they justified the stipulation. The Death Riders won the match and this was not a popular result in Brisbane.
Kazuchika Okada beat Buddy Matthews for AEW Continental Championship
The main event of the show was the match featuring local boy Buddy Matthews against Kazuchika Okada. Buddy Matthews got a humorous pop and Okada was booed. Both men had studied the other as they were reversing each other’s moves. They hit power moves such as Suplexes and moves from the top rope. The crowd was roaring Buddy Matthews. He had a 14 minute match against Okada. Buddy Matthews got a great showing but it was Kazuchika Okada who got the win. Kazuchika Okada did not give the respect that Buddy Matthews deserved at the start of the match but by the end respect was earned.
Toni Storm beat Mariah May for AEW Women’s Championship
The main event of this show could only have been one match. It was Toni Storm vs Mariah May. Toni Storm is by far the biggest Australian superstar in AEW. She got a superstar entrance. This was a 16 minute classic. These two women were more physical than the last match they had at All In. Toni Storm was unhinged and she was stomping Mariah May at the bottom rope. Both women hit their Finishers but both kicked out. The crowd was fully behind Toni Storm. Toni Storm won the match with an inside cradle pin and became the AEW Women’s Champion. It was a good night for women’s wrestling as women main evented 2 big shows. NXT Vengeance Day and AEW Grand Slam Australia. It would be interesting to see the direction that both Toni Storm and Mariah May take on the Road to Revolution in March.
