Vishnu Saravanan booked India’s
first quota in sailing for the Paris 2024 Olympics after an impressive
performance at the ILCA 7 Men's World Championship 2024 in Adelaide
(Australia).
It was the one-person dinghy
event at the ILCA 7 Men's World Championship 2024 at the Adelaide Sailing Club,
where Vishnu Saravanan finished in the 26th position with 125 net points over
six days.
Meanwhile, the ILCA 7 Men's World
Championship 2024 is a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics for seven
countries’ quotas, which earlier failed to qualify for the upcoming Summer
Olympics. These seven nations are India, Guatemala, Montenegro, Chile, Denmark,
Turkey, and Sweden.

In the eligibility quotas for the
Paris 2024 Olympics, Saravanan managed the fifth position at the ILCA 7 Men's
World Championship 2024 to book India’s first sailing ticket for the upcoming
Summer Olympics.

Committees (NOCs) have the final authority to decide the national representatives
at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Laser U21 World Championships
2019 bronze medal winner, Vishnu Saravanan, is currently the 32nd-ranked sailor
(December 2023) in the ILCA 7 Men's event. His best rank was 16.
At the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou
(China), Saravanan won the bronze medal in the men’s dinghy ILCA7 sailing
event.
Vishnu Saravanan also represented
India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he finished in 20th place in the men’s
laser category.
