Ram Baboo became the seventh
Indian to meet the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying standard in the men’s 20km
race walk event.

In March 2024, during the
Dudinska 50 2024 event in Dudince, Slovakia, Indian athlete Ram Baboo won the bronze
medal in the men’s 20km race walk event after completing the race in one hour
and 20 minutes (1:20:00).
The men’s 20km race walk
qualifying standard for the Paris 2024 Olympics has been set at 1:20:10. So,
Ram Baboo achieved that mark. He became the seventh Indian to meet the Paris
2024 Olympics qualifying standard in this event.
However, only three athletes can
participate from each nation in the men’s 20km race walk event at the Paris
2024 Olympics. So, out of seven eligible Indians, only three can participate in
the men’s 20km race walk event at the upcoming Summer Olympics. The national
federation will ultimately decide on the national representative in the men’s
20km race walk event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Six Indian athletes who met the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying standard in the men’s 20km race walk event
Akshdeep Singh was the first
Indian to breach the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying standard in the men’s 20km
race walk event. In the National Open Race Walking Championships 2023 in
Morabadi in February 2023, Akshdeep took 1:19:55 to finish the race.
In the Asian 20km Race Walking
Championships 2023 at Nomi (Japan) in March 2023, Vikash Singh (1:20:05) and
Paramjeet Bisht (1:20:08) became the second and third Indians, respectively, to
meet the Paris 2024 qualifying standard.
In January 2024, during the
Indian Open Race Walking Competition 2024 in Chandigarh, Suraj Panwar
(1:19:44), Servin Sebastian (1:20:03), and Arshpreet Singh (1:20:04) breached
the 1:20:10 entry standard for the Paris 2024 in the men’s 20km race walk
event.
