The 24-year-old Indian athlete Jyothi Yarraji is ready for her challenge at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles. It will be the first time in the history of the Summer Olympics that an Indian will participate in the women’s 100m.

Jyothi Yarraji: Early life
Jyothi Yarraji was born on 28th August 1999. She is from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Her father is a security guard, and her mother is a domestic help worker. Jyothi has been supported by the Reliance Foundation.
Regular national records breaker
Since 2022, Jyothi has been setting up national records in the women’s 100m hurdles multiple times. Meanwhile, since January 2023, she has created numerous national records in the women’s 60m hurdles indoor event.
First Indian woman to complete 100m hurdles in under 13 seconds
In October 2022, Jyothi became the first Indian to complete the women’s 100m hurdles event in under 13 seconds.
Commonwealth Games 2022 performances
In the Commonwealth Games 2022, Jyothi was a member of the women’s 4x100m relay team that finished in fourth place after completing the race in 43.81 seconds. She also participated in the women’s 100m hurdles but failed to qualify for the final.
Two medals in the Asian Championships 2023
Jyothi won a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Asian Championships 2023 in Bangkok. She also secured a silver medal in the 200m race event in the same competition.

The three-time national champion Jyothi won the silver medal in the 100m hurdles at the Asian Games 2022.

Earlier, in May 2024, during the Motonet GP Jyvaskyla athletics meet, Jyothi won the women’s 100m hurdles by equalling her national record (12.78 s), but she missed the Paris 2024 Olympics direct qualification standard by just 0.01 second.
