Separating the Contenders from the Pretenders in the NFL

The 2022 NFL season will be coming up in just a few short months, and that’s always the best time of the year for most sports fans. Other professional sports have a massive following as well, but this sport just continues to dominate the sports landscape.

Making score predictions for NFL games is something that will be done for the full 18 week regular season, but others also take a look at the bigger picture. It’s not only a tough chore picking the winning teams each week, but it’s even harder to pick which teams can win the Super Bowl.

There are 32 teams in the NFL, but only a small portion of those teams have a chance to win the Super Bowl. Here is a breakdown of where each team in the NFL will land in 2022.

Super Bowl Favorites

Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers

There are always surprises in every NFL season, but the 2022 season doesn’t feel like it will have that. It appears that there are just five teams that can call themselves favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2022, and the rest of the league will be fighting to keep up.

In the AFC it will be the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs battling out for the top spot. Even though neither team won the conference a season ago, it would be an absolute stunning development if that happened again this season.

The NFC looks to be more wide open, and the Los Angeles Rams are going to be trying to win the conference again. You can never count out the Buccaneers or Packers as long as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are under center.

Contenders

Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts

The list of contenders could technically include all other 27 teams in the league, but that’s simply not realistic. There is a solid group of contenders based on the list above, and one of these teams could come out of nowhere to make a deep playoff run.

You will notice that the Cincinnati Bengals are on this list, even though they were in the Super Bowl a season ago. Cincinnati was a monster surprise in 2021 and they will have to do the same thing this season.

The AFC West should be loaded this year, and the Chargers and Broncos can both make a run at the Chiefs. Dallas will also be a contender this year, but they can’t ever seem to get out of this group and really become a threat.

Playoffs a Possibility

Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints

Now we have come to the group of teams that could make the playoffs if things go really well, but they could also end up heading in the complete opposite direction. An expanded NFL Playoff field will include some of these teams, but that won’t get them any closer to winning a Super Bowl then other teams that fall short.

Better Luck Next Year

Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears

The five teams listed above all have a belief that they can be a surprise team in 2022, and there are reasons to believe that it could happen. For every positive though, you can find about 10 reasons why these teams won’t be able to make the playoffs in 2022.

Don’t be surprised to see some of these teams win some games in 2022, but it’s not going to be good enough.

All About 2023 NFL Draft

Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans

There are six teams that are entering the 2022 season with little to no hope of winning the Super Bowl this season. All six of these fanbases will have some high hopes to begin the year, but that will end by Week 4.

Instead of trying to win the title, the teams listed above should all be focused on having the worst record in the league and landing the number 1 overall draft pick.
