T20 cricket is popular for power-hitting as boundaries quickly change the scoreboard and due to the short period of innings, teams don't care to lose a few wickets. From the historic first match in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has set a great tone for the batters. While we have seen many great innings in this tournament, some of the overs were like hell for the bowlers as they had no answer against the unstoppable batting performance.
In this article, we are going through the most expensive overs in the Indian Premier League history.
Here’s the list of the top 5 most expensive overs in IPL history:
5. Ravi Bopara:
Ravi Bopara is one of England’s most famous all-rounders. However, in the IPL, he also suffered one of the most expensive overs with the ball. During the IPL 2010, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bowler Bopara conceded 33 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where Chris Gayle (25 runs) had no mercy on him along with his partner Manoj Tiwary (two runs). Gayle smashed four successive sixes in that over.

4. Parvinder Awana:
It was the Qualifier 2 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2014, where Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bowler Parvinder Awana conceded 33 runs in an over. In the sixth over of the second innings, Suresh Raina thrashed Awana with boundaries in every delivery.
Runs per ball: 6, 6, 4, 4, nb+4, 4, 4
3. Daniel Sams:
During the IPL 2022, Australian left-arm pacer Daniel Sams was thrashed by Australian star Pat Cummins, where the left-arm pacer conceded 35 runs in an over. It was the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, where KKR required 35 runs in 30 balls with five wickets in hand. In the 16th over of that chase, Cummins thrashed Sams to secure a solid victory by equalling the fastest IPL fifty record.

2. Harshal Patel:
IPL 2021 was a dream season for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap and Most Valuable Player awards. But one of the games in that season ended awkwardly for him. Although his bowling figures were remarkable before the final over of the first innings against Chennai Super Kings (3-0-14-3), CSK star Ravindra Jadeja thrashed him in the final over with 37 runs. Out of five sixes and one four in that over, Jadeja smashed four sixes in the first four deliveries.

1. Prasanth Parameshwaran:
Prasanth Parameswaran was a very well-known cricketer in Indian domestic tournaments. But when it comes to the IPL, he is one of the most unfortunate bowlers too. The record for conceding the most runs in one over of an IPL match is written in his name. It was the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2011 season, and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala's left-arm pacer conceded 37 runs in his over. This may sound weird, but it is true. It was Chris Gayle’s batting, who scored 36 runs in that over with the help of four sixes and three fours, and one run was from no ball.
Runs per ball: 6, nb+6, 4, 4 ,6, 6, 4
