Top 5 Bad Buys in Day 1 of the IPL mega auction 2022

Earlier we discussed about the steals of the IPL mega auction Day 1 but not all is good about an auction day as there were some deals that were made that went over the head of any logical thinking person but the auction dynamics forces the teams to overbid for a player which they do not want to and as a result pay way more than they should. And this auction had a few of them as well.

Since the players that got bid today got way more than they should have but it’s not the players fault at all and they will be laughing all the way to the bank and the teams that paid those amounts for them would be thinking whether they should have paid that or not. So, let’s take a look at some of the bad buys of today’s auction.

Nicholas Pooran (10.75 Crores):

This was without a doubt the worst deal of the day as the player involved and the amount which is being paid are in opposite directions but the fans of KKR must be delighted as they got saved by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team when they gave 10.75 crores to an out of form Pooran. This made absolutely no sense as he has not done anything of notice recently but since Hyderabad had the money, they decided to spend on him. Hopefully they don’t have to feel bad later on.

Shimron Hetmeyer (8.75 Crores):

There is absolutely no idea as to what the Rajasthan Royals were thinking before shelling so much money on a player who is first not fit and second he is not able to perform consistently. Because he is a big name does not mean that one should pay whatever for a player. There should be reasonable thinking behind paying such a big amount but the auction pressure must have let them do this.

Nitish Rana (8 Crores):

Even if we take it into consideration that he is a very good Indian batter who can bowl a bit, giving 8 Crores for Nitish Rana was too much by the KKR team. They should have let the player go after a certain price had been reached. He is not a player who warrants this kind of hefty pay and the hope is that he can repay their faith.

Wanindu Hasaranga (10.75 Crores):

Even Wanindu Hasaranga must be laughing all day at the amount which he was paid because no one expected that he would be paid this much so it was an absolute shocker , he should have been paid around 5 crores, not double that amount by the RCB team and they must be thinking today that we paid a few crores extra for him. Certainly a bad deal from the day.

Krunal Pandya (8.25 Crores):

There are frankly no words to say about this deal as it makes absolutely no sense to pay a player who can only bat decently and not bowl well either is being paid so much and this was not expected by the Lucknow team who paid this much money to secure his services. They would be regretting this purchase when the auction got over today. Krunal Pandya is an IPL money making magnet who everytime gets more than he warrants and it is good for him but not good for the team involved.
