The Knight in Shining Armour Pat Cummins

We generally do not do post IPL match articles but last night was something special and we will not be doing the hero justice if we don’t talk about him and the fact that Pat Cummins played one of the best ever innings in the IPL and certainly the best Innings of the 15th season of the IPL and yes it is better than the hundred by Jos Butter. These types of innings come once in a lifetime but for Pat Cummins against Mumbai Indians this is a regular occurrence. Truly a special moment to watch on Television.

Before Pat Cummins came out there was a match going on which was very close and to the wire and the viewers thought that it would surely go till the 20th over and especially the KKR fans were worried that their team would lose one more match against the Mumbai Indians. We will come to Pat Cummins but before that let’s look at this extraordinary match that was between two high profile teams in the IPL.

Great start by KKR

KKR won the toss and chose to bowl and as always the bowling star of this IPL Umesh Yadav bowled the first over and Rohit Sharma did not know which ball was going where and for all the six balls he seemed very uncomfortable and Umesh Yadav is having the time of his life and KKR are better with him being the top bowler of this IPL. Then from there Rasikh Salam made his debut and he was very impressive bowling good lime and lengths and the rest of the pack joined in and in the powerplay MI were not allowed to score a lot of runs by the disciplined bowling.

Spin twins create havoc

The spin twins for KKR Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy were at their best as they have been all throughout this IPL and they did not allow the Mumbai batters to score runs and In frustration Ishan Kishan got out and they both are bowling so good together that it gives an 8 overs bank to KKR that they won’t  concede much runs and keep the opposition batters in check and this time was no different.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma comeback

As it is expected from an IPL match that everything will not go one sided and so it did not because after dominating the first 15 overs of the match, it was time for Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma to counter attack in the last 5 overs of the innings and they did that with expert precision as they smashed fours and sixes all around the ground and Surya hit a well made half century for his efforts and they both took the Mumbai score to 161.

The lone man Venky

When the KKR innings started it was going by almost like the first innings and this time it was Venkatesh Iyer who was standing firm in one end of the wicket and making the runs for the team while on the other end wickets were falling regularly and most of them were gifted by the KKR batters as Diwali sweets and KKR were in a tough spot at 101-5 with Andre Russell gone as well and Pat Cummins was at the crease and no one was prepared for what happened next.

Pat came saw and conquered it all

What does one say about this innings? While I was watching at home as an IPL fan and hoping for a close match but what happened even I could never have imagined. He only played 15 balls and Venkatesh Iyer played 41 balls and Pat Cummins scored more than him. In those 15 balls that he played, he hit 6 monster sixes and 4 fours which means 10 boundary hits in 15 balls and as a result created lots of records. First he equalled KL Rahul for the fastest 50 in IPL history then he smashed Daniel Sams for 35 runs which is the Third most expensive over in IPL history. If the best fast bowler in the world can bat like that then nothing is left to be said.
