We have seen many breath-taking batting partnerships in the IPL in the past few editions.
In this article we will look at the top 5 highest partnerships in the IPL history. Virat Kohli has been involved in three 200 plus batting partnerships with A B De Villiers and Chris Gayle.
1. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers 229 (RCB vs GL):
In the 2016 edition of Indian Premier League, Virat single-handedly took RCB in the finals with his stellar batting performance. He was the highest run getter for RCB in that season. In the match against Gujarat Lions the famous duo of ABD and Virat made the mockery of bowlers.
This duo made batting look so easy on a batting friendly Bangalore wicket. These two stitched a magnificent partnership of 229 runs and both of them scored their respective hundreds. RCB posted a mammoth total of 249 runs against GL and won that game by 144 runs.
2. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers 215 (RCB vs MI):
The duo of Virat and AB entertained the crowd at Wankhede with their class batting display in 2015 edition of IPL. On a batting friendly Wankhede wicket RCB lost Gayle early. Virat and AB smashed MI bowlers all over the park.
They stitched a magnificent partnership of 215 runs and took RCB to a gigantic score of 235 runs. Virat scored magnificent 82 and AB scored 133 runs. Because of score board pressure Rohit Sharma & company crumbled on 196 runs.
3. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh 206 (KXIP vs RCB):
In the 2011 edition of IPL the two Aussie left handers put on a great show with the bat against RCB. After losing Paul Valthaty early in the innings Gilchrist and Marsh boasted KXIP to a mammoth total of 232.They stitched a memorable partnership of 206 runs.
Gilly scored a brilliant 105 in just 55 balls which included 8 fours and 9 gigantic sixes. Marsh scored quick-fire 79 runs in just 49 balls. RCB managed to score just 121 runs which handed a famous victory to KXIP by 111 runs.
4. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle 204 (RCB vs DD):
Virat and Gayle hold the record for fourth highest partnership in the IPL. After winning the toss Delhi decided to bowl first. After losing Dilshan early the duo of Gayle and Virat entertained the crowd with their brilliant batting display.
Both put a solid partnership of 204 runs out of which Gayle scored 128 and Kohli scored 73. RCB put up a huge total of 215 runs courtesy of some high class batting displays from Virat and Gayle. RCB beat Delhi by 21 runs.
5. David Warner and Naman Ojha 189 (DD vs DC):
Deccan Chargers put on a solid show with the bat in the first innings as they set a competitive total of 187 runs against Delhi. Delhi lost Sehwag early in their innings. But, the duo of Warner and Ojha tonked the DC ballers all over the park.
The duo put up a great partnership of 189 runs which handed over a magnificent victory to the Delhi team. Warner scored a scintillating knock of 105 in just 54 balls and Ojha scored 64 of just 46 balls.
