The final round games of the 77th National Football Championship or the Santosh Trophy will be hosted in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time since the competition’s inception in 1941. The tournament will also see a new format with an expanded knockout stage, with the top four teams from each group progressing to the quarter-finals. The Santosh Trophy 2023-24 final round matches will be played from February 21 and end with the final on March 9, 2024. A total of 12 teams will participate in the final round.
Six group winners - Goa, Delhi, Manipur, Assam, Services and Maharashtra with three best second-placed sides - Kerala, Mizoram and Railways and three automatic qualifiers including hosts Arunachal Pradesh, last season's champions Karnataka and runners-up Meghalaya will play the final round. The Santosh Trophy 2023-24 was supposed to be rebranded as ‘FIFA Santosh Trophy’ but the governing body walked away citing political reasons surrounding the venue in Arunachal Pradesh.
