Ghanaian Footballer Asamoah Gyan is all set to join the Indian Super League in its sixth edition with the North East United Football Club.

The hope for the season for the club seemed bleak after Nigerian Bartholomew Ogbeche decided to quit and declare allegiance to Kerala Blasters.

However, the acquisition of the service of the 33-year-old Gyan, could be a major turn of events likely to turn the odds in favour of the North East United, being the star performer, and the top goal scorer of the Ghana National Football Team with about 51 goals from 107 international matches. Gyan also serves as the captain of the Ghanaian National Football Team. Gyan was roped by the North East United Football Club shortly after the end of his service with Turkish club Kayserispor. He is yet to play his first match in the year 2019.

The North East United Football club were in a dilemma when faced with the choice of induction of Nigerian Obafemi Martins versus Asamoah Gyan, but the club’s predilection for the latter prevailed due to his stellar performance statistics and experience. Gyan has about 173 goals from 333 matches, with a total of 9 franchise representations since the year 2003; additionally, the Ghanaian also holds the record for the fastest goal in the 2006 Fifa World Cup, netting the ball into the Czech net 68 seconds after the kick-off.

Gyan has been a recipient of two Africa Cup of Nations runners-up medals awarded for his stellar performance in football. The 33 year old also happens to be the top African goal scorer in the history of the World Cup tournaments.   Gyan has notably represented top football clubs such as the Udinese, where he played from the year 2003 to 2008 with a total of 39 appearances striking 11 and the club Rennes from the year 2008-2010, netting the ball 14 times in 48 appearances.

The North East United Football Club will be the 11th club Gyan will play for in his professional career. Formerly, Gyan played for the Sunderland scoring 11 goals in 36 matches in the English Premier League alongside his much renowned play with the Emirati Al-Ain Football club; netting the ball 95 times in 83 appearances, which earned him numerous accolades including being the league’s top scoring player.  Additionally, Gyan has played in top leagues such as Serie A and La Liga. He is expected to retain his position as the centre-forward whilst playing for the North East United Football Club.

Gyan has touched down at Guwahati and is expected to initiate his training under coach Robert Jarni this week.

"I have heard great things about North East United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season”, said Gyan in an interview, "I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year,” concluded Gyan on a hopeful note.
