Mumbai City failed to defend their Shield title in the final game of the league phase but made sure to end the season with silverware by winning the ISL Cup. The Islanders took perfect revenge over Mohun Bagan Super Giant, whom they lost their Shield defence to, at the opposition’s den with a 3-1 win in the final and repeating the feat of 2021. Petr Kratky carried on the excellent job done by now Oxford United coach Des Buckingham taking over from him in December 2023. His side hopes to add more trophies in the Czech’s first full season in charge.
The Cup winners begin the 2024/25 season with a rematch of the ISL final against the Mariners at the same Salt Lake Stadium on 13 September 2024. The growing rivalry between the sides will be reignited in the clash before Mumbai City plays another away game taking on Jamshedpur FC at Furnace. The first home game of the campaign will also prove tricky with a rejuvenated Bengaluru FC visiting them at Mumbai Football Arena. A visit to FC Goa and back-to-back home games against Odisha FC and Kerala Blasters make it a tough start to the new ISL season. The side will play the two fixtures against East Bengal in the league next year.
