Mohammedan Sporting Club became the second side to be promoted to the ISL after winning the I-League in a historic season. After almost a decade, the Black Panthers returned to India’s top division of men’s club football joining the other Kolkata giants in East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant. It also means the ISL will have three clubs from the same city for the first time since the league started in 2014. The 133-year-old club will add another chapter to their rich legacy when they play their first-ever ISL game on 16 September 2024 against Northeast United, hosting the match at Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata in front of the passionate home support.
Andrey Chernyshov's team will play four Kolkata derbies in the league, with the first one against Shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant at Salt Lake Stadium in October. They will return to the same venue to face East Bengal a month later. Aside from these battles, Mohammedan Sporting will feel the heat of being among the other top teams of the ISL. The side will face the ISL Cup winners Mumbai City in the closing month of the year at home as well as hosting Odisha FC in the last game of the first half of the 2024-25 season on 27 December 2024.
