The fixture for the I-League 2024-25 was finally announced after the competition faced a delay due to broadcasters' finalization. The second tier of the Indian men’s football league began on 22 November 2024, a month after it was scheduled to start. 12 teams will be battling to be the third team to earn promotion to the Indian Super League, the top-flight, after Punjab FC and last season’s I-League winners Mohammedan SC. The bottom two clubs will be relegated to I-League 3. The league will also take a winter break after the sixth round of games before resuming in the New Year on 8 January 2025. This will be the 18th season of the competition and the third season as the second tier.
The two promoted sides in the competition are Sporting Club Bengaluru, making their debut and the returning record I-League winner Dempo SC, after nine years. They will begin their journey against Inter Kashi and Aizawl FC respectively. However, the eyes will be on the league opener as two title contenders Sreenidi Deccan and Gokulam Kerala meet at Deccan Arena in Hyderabad. The Deccan Warriors are also involved in the last game of the year facing Habas’s Kashi on 20th December 2024. Whereas, the Malabarians will play the first game of the restart against Delhi FC. The India U-20 national team was about to participate in this season as part of their 2027 Asian Cup and 2026 Asian Games but the plan was dropped.
