Since the formation of ISL in 2014, FC Goa and Mumbai City FC have been a fixture of major storylines. Although the first season saw no goals between the sides in both encounters, there have been two more goalless draws since in 24 meetings overall. The game has been played in the ISL playoffs as well with both progressing at a time in four ties so far. Mumbai City FC have just edged FC Goa with 10 wins to seven but the game has provided more narratives than simply the result of the match.
The Islanders have picked up those wins in home and away games equally while the Gaurs have enjoyed more success on the travel. Goa leads on goals scored and on eight occasions found the net three times or more. Both Mumbai City FC and FC Goa have kept nine clean sheets each which has been hard to come by due to the high-scoring affair on most times. The 1-1 draw in the recent meetings between the sides was the only time that just Indian players got on the scoresheet.

Biggest FC Goa win: 7-0 (17 November 2015)
The biggest win for FC Goa was the biggest margin of victory any side ever had in ISL history. The game saw two hat tricks in a single match, an unprecedented feat. The Gaurs unleashed such a storm on that November evening that the Islanders' defense completely collapsed especially in the second half. Indian scorer Semboi Haokip and Nigerian forward Dudu bagged three goals each at the Fatorda Stadium while Reinaldo hit the last nail in the coffin. The season turned out to be a frustrating one for the Islanders as they finished sixth on the ISL table, six points away from the playoff spot, whereas FC Goa ended up as runners-up in the ISL final.
Biggest Mumbai City FC win: 4-1 (1 December 2022)
FC Goa kept the trend of high-scoreline victories so Mumbai City FC had to wait longer to have their slice of the pie. The Islanders finally managed to get one under Des Buckingham at the Mumbai Football Arena in the season they won the ISL Shield for the second time. Star striker Jorge Diaz scored a brace in the 4-1 victory with Lallianzuala Chhangte and Alberto Noguera also finding the net. Goa narrowly missed the playoff spot but it was a largely disappointing campaign for them.
Highest Scoring Game: FC Goa 3-5 Mumbai City (11 February 2023)
In that very season, the pair played out a goal-fest in the game which Mumbai City confirmed themselves as Shield winners. Greg Stewart was the architect behind the comeback win, after Noah Sadaoui put the home side in front, with his brace while Diaz, Chhangte and the substitute Vikram Pratap backed him up. As a result, Brinson Fernandes's late strike did not matter with Brando Fernandes’ goal to make it 2-2 also becoming obscure at the end.
