Since their introduction to ISL in 2020, East Bengal have failed to make at least the playoffs while languishing in the bottom half of the table in each season so far. However, with former ISL winner Carles Cuadrat taking the helm and guiding the club to the Durand Cup final after a long wait, there is a renewed hope of things changing at the club. There is positivity over signings this summer which on paper looks superior to the deals done in the past.
Hence, Emami East Bengal will begin the new season with a fresh look again but have optimism this time. The Red and Gold will start the ISL 2023/24 season with back-to-back home games. Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC will be their opponents before they make their first trip of the season to Bengaluru FC next month. Then returning to Salt Lake to FC Goa before the all-important Kolkata derby on 28th October 2023.
Despite playing at the same venue, this match will be an away game for East Bengal as they seek their revenge against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan for their Durand Cup final loss. They will also wish to end their losing streak ever since the fixture was played in ISL. Indeed, their start to the season is difficult. Before the pause for the Asian Cup next year, Carles Cuadrat’s men will take on AFC Cup debutants Odisha FC on 22nd December 2023.
