The 2023 Durand Cup will kick off the club season for Indian football with the tournament kicking off on 3rd August 2023. The final of the competition will be played on September 3, 2023. Three cities Kolkata, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar have been selected for the venues of this edition. For the first time in its history, a total of 24 teams will battle it out for the prestigious trophy. After 27 years, foreign teams will take part in the oldest football competition in Asia. This is also the second time, Durand Cup will be played in more than one city.
19 Indian clubs will take part with all 12 clubs selected from ISL for only the second time. Five I-League teams, one third-division side and one regional league team will join them. Indian Air Force, Army Red and Indian Navy along with two foreign armed forces in Bangladesh Army and Nepal Tribhuvan Army will also take part. The teams are divided into six groups with the winners and the two best second-placed teams will advance to the knockout stage. Bengaluru FC are the defending champions having beaten Mumbai City in the final last year at the Saltlake Stadium.
