I-League 2018-19: Matchday 4 | Aizawl FC vs Minerva Punjab and Indian Arrows vs Mohun Bagan | Sports Social Blog

Matchday 4 kicked off with two fixtures. 2017 champions Aizawl FC hosted 2018 champions Minerva Punjab in the 2pm kick-off.

The two bottom placed teams were looking for their first wins of the season after their poor starts to the campaign. Defending champions Minerva had an extra week off as they were not in action on Matchday 3 while Aizawl were held to a goalless draw against NEROCA FC in the Northeastern derby.

In the 5pm kick off, it was the Indian Arrows taking on the winless Mohun Bagan at the Barabati Stadium.

Indian Arrows sat above their opponents in the table at fourth place while Bagan sat at seventh as both teams have played only two games so far.

Aizawl FC vs Minerva Punjab  (1-2)

Aizawl FC (4-3-3)

A couple of changes by Gift Raikhan as Lalrinmuana and Dodoz came in for Lalrin Fela and Zohmingmawia after their goalless draw last week.

Minerva Punjab (4-2-3-1)

A trio of changes for Sachin Badadhe's side as new signings Alhassan Dahir and Donatus Edafe were named in the starting X1 along with Moinuddin Khan ahead of Makan Winkle Chote, Akash Sangwan and Alexander Kouame.

And it was Edafe who made an instant impact as his delivery from a corner was headed in by Toure in the 10th minute.

Aizawl were having a tough time in keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the first half. Second half started the same way as Minerva scored again in the 58th minute from a corner. It was the centre back Toure again as he rose highest to a Opoku delivery to pile on the misery on the home side.

It was a nervy ending for the away side after Dodoz slotted home the penalty after the ball had struck Akashdeep's hand in the 84th minute. Aizawl poured men forward for the equaliser but Minerva stood firm and got their first win of the season.

Aizawl FC will next be hosting Chennai City on November 16 whereas Minerva will be taking on Gokulam in Kerala on November 18.

Indian Arrows vs Mohun Bagan

Indian Arrows (4-4-2)

No changes for the home side that earned them a narrow 1-0 win over Shillong Lajong FC.

Mohun Bagan (4-4-2)

One change for Sankar Lal Chakraborty's side as club captain Shilton Pal has been reinstated in goal, relegating Sankar Roy to the bench. Haitian winger Sony Norde started on the bench again after marking his return last week with a goal.

It was a bright start for Bagan as they launched a barrage of attacks using the flanks in the first half.

After a number of chances, Bagan were rewarded with a goal in the 30th minute as Kisekka set up Dipanda who headed in from close range.

Bagan continued their assault as they were rewarded with a penalty in stoppage time of the first half. Dipanda converted from the spot and bagged his second goal of the evening.

After the break, Arrows finally created a few chances as they began to show some intent while Bagan seemed to have taken their foot off the gas. Nevertheless, it was a convincing win for Bagan as they bagged their first win of the season and climbed to third in the table for the time being.

Up next for Mohun Bagan is a trip up north as they take on high-flying Real Kashmir on Novermber 20 while Indian Arrows will also take on Real Kashmir on November 25 as they will not be in action on Matchday 5.
