Spanish Grand Prix 2024 Results

The latest race in the 2024 Formula 1 season took place on Sunday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya . This was a race that was crucial for the drivers as well as the constructors championship. Red Bull, McClaren, Mercedes and Ferrari are vying for the crown. This season is not as one sided as the 2023 season.

Race as it happened

Lando Norris grabbed the pole position for the race on Sunday as he beat Max Verstappen by two- hundredths of a second. Lewis Hamilton was P3 and George Russell was P4. The race started and it was George Russell that got the best start as he zoomed past the top 2 to get the lead of the race. Lewis Hamilton lost his P4 spot to Charles Leclerc for a second but was quick to get it back. Fernando Alonso slipped from P11 to P14. On Lap 3, Max Verstappen overtook George Russell to take back the lead of the Grand Prix. It was Lap 13 and Kevin Magnussen was given a 5 second penalty for a false start. Lap 15 and George Russell was in the pits but he took 5.3 seconds and Max Verstappen took 1.9 Seconds.

By Lap 18, Lewis Hamilton got to P6 and Charles Leclerc was not happy with how it happened. On Lap 24, Lando Norris got into the pits and the Top 5 were Max Verstappen, George Russell, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz. At Lap 32, Lando Norris got past Lewis Hamilton. By Lap 34, Max Verstappen was 8 seconds ahead of George Russell. Lando Norris was following George Russell and then followed the epic battle for P2. By the end it was Lando Norris who got to P2 and Lewis Hamilton was closing in on his teammate George Russell. At Lap 41, the lead of Max Verstappen was reduced to 5.9 seconds as Lando Norris was chasing him.

George Russell was not happy with his tyres and Lewis Hamilton pitted to get soft tyres till the end of the race. Max Verstappen was in the pits for the second time and this was the time for Lando Norris to get the lead. Lewis Hamilton was having a very good race as he got past Carlos Sainz first. Nico Hulkenberg was given a 5 second penalty for speeding in the pit lane and he was in P11. Yuki Tsonuda was having a bad race as he was in last place and he was also given a 5 second penalty. T Lap 51, the gap between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris was 6.6 seconds. As the laps kept happening the gap was reducing and by Lap 65, the gap was 2.3 seconds but there was only 1 Lap remaining. Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix for the third time in a row. Lando Norris was in P2 and Lewis Hamilton had his best race in months for P3.
