Dutch Grand Prix 2024 Results: Lando Norris Dominates, Max Verstappen's Home Race Disappointment

Lando Norris Wins Dutch Grand Prix 2024

Formula 1 returned after a 4 week summer break which gave the drivers and the teams a chance to look back at the season that has gone by and ways to improve. The first Grand Prix after the summer break was the Dutch Grand Prix which was the Home race for Max Verstappen. It was also an opportunity for Lando Norris to reduce the lead in the championship standings.

This race was being held in Zandvoort and this was a 72 lap race. Max Verstappen had the perfect start as he got the lead of the race followed by Lando Norris and George Russell. At Lap 8 of the race , Carlos Sainz got past fellow Spanish driver Fernando Alonso to get to P8 in the race. Lewis Hamilton also got to P11 in the race. At Lap 11, Carlos Sainz was in his element and he got past Pierre Gasly but not before doing damage to the car of Gasly. Lando Norris was getting close to Max Verstappen and was within DRA range as the laps went along. By Lap 13, the pit stops started and the first was Nico Hulkenberg. Lap 18 and Lando Norris was in the lead of the race via DRS. By Lap 24, Lando Norris was 4 seconds ahead in the race.


At Lap 25, Lewis Hamilton changed into the hard tyres. Max Verstappen pitted on Lap 27 of the race. He was the first of the Top 3 to pit. Lando Norris pit on Lap 28 and Oscar Piastri was in the lead of the race. Lap 33 and Oscar Piastri pitted and he was out in P5. Lando Norris was ahead by 10 seconds from Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc was 6 Seconds behind Max Verstappen in P3. Lance Stroll was given a 5 second penalty for speeding on the pit lane. Oscar Piastri overtook George Russell and he was in P4 which was one place behind the podium. It was Lap 45 of the race and Lando Norris was ahead by 12 seconds. By Lap 47, Carlos Sainz got past Sergio Perez for P6 in the race. Lewis Hamilton was in P8.


At Lap 50, Lewis Hamilton decided to go to soft tyres to finish the race as he wanted to get the fastest lap of the race for a bonus point. 62 Laps had been completed and Lando Norris was ahead by 15 seconds and it was a dominating performance by the McClaren driver. Nico Hulkenberg was out of the Top 10 as Alexander Albon took the P10 spot. Lando Norris was just increasing his lead over Max Verstappen as he was 22.8 seconds ahead and this was a statement at the home of Max Verstappen. Lando Norris won the race with Max Verstappen finishing in P2 and Charles Leclerc had to fight for P3 and he will be on the podium. Oscar Piastri was P4 and Carlos Sainz was P5. Sergio Perez had a good race as he finished P6.
