The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was held on 15th September 2024 at Baku. This was a race which was an opportunity for the other teams to catch up to Red Bull and for the other drivers to catch up to Max Verstappen in the drivers championship standings. This race was held after a 2 week gap.

Key Facts from The Race
This was the first Formula 1 race where all the podium drivers were champions of Fotjil2.
This was the second Grand Prix win for Oscar Piastri in his Formula 1 career.
Max Verstappen is in the lead of the drivers championship with 313 points. Lando Norris is in second place with 254 points and Charles Leclerc is in Third place with 235 points
McClaren is at the Top of the constructors championship with 476 points closely followed by Red Bull with 456 points.
The next race will be the Singapore GP which will take place on 22nd September 2024.
Race as it happened
The race starts and it is Charles Leclerc who got into the front and is P1 followed by Oscar Piastri in P2. By Lap 2 , Lando Norris was up to P13 which was 2 places above his starting position. It is Lap 5 of the race and Charles Leclerc is only 0.9 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri and Sergio Perez is in P3. Lando Norris is P11 by Lap 6 and is on hard tyres. Max Verstappen is in P5. Lando Norris has gotten amongst the points by Lap 8 and is in P10. It is Lap 13 of the race and Charles Leclerc is 3.5 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri. Sergio Perez is 1.9 seconds behind Oscar Piastri in P3. Max Verstappen and George Russell are in the pits. In Lap 16 there was a good display of teamwork by McClaren as Lando Norris held Sergio Perez so that Oscar Piastri can pit and come ahead of the Red Bull driver.
Lap 17 and Charles Leclerc pits and changes to the hard tyres. Carlos Sainz is in the lead of the race. By Lap 18 Charles Leclerc is P1 followed by Oscar Piastri, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez and Lando Norris. Sergio Perez gets past Alex Albon to get to P3 in Lap 19. Lap 20 and Oscar Piastri is in the lead as he makes an aggressive move which caught Charles Leclerc off guard. Lap 23 and Oscar Piastri has the lead followed by Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. Charles Leclerc will have to pit. It is Lap 25 and there is a fight for P6 between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Max is unable to get past Lando. Fernando Alonso is P9 and Nico Hulkenberg is P11 after 26 Laps. Alex Albon is having a great race as he is closing in on Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. By Lap 29, the tyres of Oscar Piastri are struggling and there might be a chance for Charles Leclerc.
It is Lap 32 and Charles Leclerc is fighting for the top spot. George Russell is in the race as he is closing in on Max Verstappen. Lap 34 and George Russell gets past Max Verstappen who is having a horrible day on the track. Oscar Piastri is still In the lead of the Grand Prix after Lap 37. Oscar Piastri is having the race of his life as he is still in the lead. Lando Norris is 13.2 seconds behind Max Verstappen after Lap 40 and it could be a battle. Charles Leclerc tries to get the lead in Lap 41 but Oscar Piastri is defending like his life depends on this win. By Lap 44, Sergio Perez is in P6 and it looks like he will no longer have DRS. Charles Leclerc is only 0.2 seconds behind Oscar Piastri at Lap 45 and it is an epic battle. Carlos Sainz is closing in on Sergio Perez in Lap 46. Lap 48 and Sergio Perez is within DRS range of Charles Leclerc. The second last lap of the race was 50 and Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz collided and both were out of the race. A Virtual Safety Car is called and Oscar Piastri wins the race followed by Charles Leclerc in P2 and George Russell in P3.
