It has been 28 years since Liverpool last won the premier league. In fact, when the mighty RED’S last won the league it wasn’t even called by its present name. The top-flight division was known as the Football League First Division or League One.

Frankly, it's quite embarrassing for the second most decorated club of English football to have had such a poor run. But as they say, this is Liverpool’s year. They are sitting at the top of the table going into Christmas with a satisfactory lead of 4 points above the current champions, Manchester City. Liverpool is also the only team undefeated this season in the English top division. With the team looking in its best shape in recent years, here are some reasons why Liverpool can clinch the title.

Apposite signings

Liverpool has made some very smart signings this season addressing the core problems in their squad. After the disasters by Loris Karius at the Champions League final against Real Madrid, the Red’s wanted a world-class goalkeeper and they have got it in the form of Brazilian Alisson Becker. Becker has proved to be an excellent signing by conceding just 7 goals in 18 appearances. The signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita has strengthened the Liverpool’s midfield. Shaqiri’s £13m move saw “the Alpine Messi” moving from Stoke to Liverpool. Shaqiri has scored 5 goals in 13 appearances providing 2 assists.

SFM

THE SFM- Salah, Firmino, and Mane have been absolutely lethal in front of goal.  The combined have scored 22 goals the league so far. Salah also won the Golden Boot last season after scoring 32 goals. They have signed long-term contracts with the club and look to put the club back to its glory status. Salah, Firmino, and Mane also created history in the Champions League last year by scoring 10 or more goals each in a single campaign, making Liverpool the only team to have three players scoring goals in double digits in a single season. These three are pivotal for Liverpool if they want to win trophies and compete with the big English as well as the European clubs.

Jürgen Klopp

Since taking over the club in October 2015, Klopp has worked tirelessly and passionately in improving the various aspects of the team. The Normal one celebrates even tackles like trophies which makes him one of the most eccentric manager in the premier league. The players, the fans and the Board are all very happy with him and are suited to his style of play. Klopp has a success ratio of 55% in three years. The Average goals scored per game is highest under Klopp than under any previous Liverpool manager. Klopp is one of the main reason for Liverpool’s success in the previous campaign where they reached the UEFA Champions League final and he can be instrumental for Liverpool in the coming years.

Though it is still a long way to go in the season, Liverpool’s chances are looking quite good. With the consistency, they have displayed so far, they can win the premier league after 28 years. Liverpool fans would be hoping that they don’t ‘slip’ it this time.
