The Premier League has boasted some incredible strikers in their history.  Over years, decades and centuries, some iconic names made their mark with their strikes.  However, there are a few who went on to score tons of goals to emulate their quality in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

We present here the ten all-time top goal scorers in the Premier League. Some of them shined for decades while others shaped the way we look at football now. Most importantly, they irked their name for generations.

10. Les Ferdinand (149 goals):

Cousin to Manchester United legend Rio, Les Ferdinand played in a host of Premier League clubs. He played the majority of his career in Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspurs.  Both of which he made over 100 appearances. Les scored his most number of goals with QPR. Newcastle United was the other club he contributed with his strikes immensely.

9. Michael Owen (150 goals):

Ballon d'Or winner in 2001, it is no doubt Michael Owen was the face of English football in the early 2000s. Undoubtedly, his best moments came in a Liverpool shirt where he took the Premier League by storm. Owen crossed the centurion mark with the Reds. His career never took the same turn since joining Real Madrid but he has been one of the impressive goalscorers to cherish the Premier League.

 8. Jermain Defoe (162 goals):

Defoe's flurry of goals came in the two stints he had with Tottenham Hotspurs. He made his debut for West Ham United and went on to establish himself as a prominent goalscorer. Defoe became a favorite at Sunderland too mostly because of him being a rescuer in crucial moments. The player for Rangers became the 20th player to score a century of Premier League goals.

7. Robbie Fowler (163 goals):

Liverpool legend, Robbie Fowler comes next in the list. Fowler was a 'goal poacher' and a complete forward. He is also known for his ability to lay off the ball for his teammates. Naturally, a left-footed player, Fowler scored some incredible goals with both feet. Even though he was an injury-prone player, Fowler bagged a flurry of goals in a career that spanned over 20 years.

6. Thierry Henry (175 goals):

One of the greatest strikers ever to grace the league, Thierry Henry defined an era at Arsenal. The Frenchman was an instrumental figure for Gunner's invincible season. Henry liked to cut in from the wing and take on defenders in a nightmare run. His iconic displays are memory reel for Arsenal fans and neutral. Manager of Montreal Impact, Henry has scored 280 goals in his playing career.

5. Frank Lampard (177 goals):

The only midfielder on the list is Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard. Lampard is the highest ever scorer for his club and likewise only midfielder to score this amount of goals in the Premier League. Now a head coach of his beloved club, Lampard delivered moments of magic with his goal-scoring brilliance. A master free-kick taker, he was also good from the spot and long-range.

4. Sergio Aguero (180 goals):

The highest-scoring foreign player in the Premier League. Sergio Aguero crafted Manchester City's dominance on English soil. Still going at the age of 32, the Argentinian is renowned for his ferociousness in front of the goal. Winner of multiple Premier League titles, Aguero's greatness will allow him to move further up the table if he stays fit. He's an absolute master class.

 3. Andrew Cole (187 goals):

Famously known as Andy Cole, the striker won eight major trophies in his career with Manchester United. Even though he played for numerous other clubs, his legacy with the Red Devils is the one spoken about. Cole holds the record of scoring the most goals in a 42 game season and also the fastest to reach 50 goals. He has scored over 90 goals for the Old Trafford club.

2. Wayne Rooney (208 goals):

The poster boy for Manchester United for a long time, Wayne Rooney was all about scoring goals. Rooney is considered one of the best players in his generation. He notched up 183 goals for Manchester United and a further 25 for his boyhood club, Everton in two stints. Rooney belonged to the glorified era of Manchester United and grabbed a handful of Premier League titles. He's only the second player to cross the double century mark in the league.

1. Alan Shearer (260 goals):

However, nobody comes close to Alan Shearer's insane goalscoring record in the Premier League. The Newcastle legend was just magnificent in rifling the net time and time again.  The 6ft tall striker scored a century of goals for the Magpies and Blackburn Rovers. The fact he has managed to do so without playing for so-called the big boys is enthralling. After all, he's the all-time top scorer in the Premier League
