Slovakia wishes to forget their group-stage exit from the Euro Championship last time with an encouraging show in Germany in 2024. The team still depends on the experience of Juraj Kucka, Lukáš Haraslín, and Peter Pekarík. However, prime players like Ondrej Duda, Milan Škriniar and Stanislav Lobotka are prepared to face challenging situations. Future stars like 18-year-old Feyenoord forward Leo Sauer with just one international cap are set to shine in a major tournament. The focus for Slovakia is on their defence again as they prepare to face top teams like Belgium, Ukraine, and Romania in their group.
History
Slovakia has participated in the Euros five times and twice as an independent nation. They were successful while part of Czechoslovakia, winning the championship in 1976 in Yugoslavia and securing third-place finishes in 1960 and 1980. Their first appearance as Slovakia came in 2016 when they finished in the last-16 stage with Euro 2024 being the third straight qualification. Francesco Calzona’s side earned direct entry to the tournament hosted in Germany by finishing second to top-placed Portugal in their qualifying group.
