Real Madrid will be without Left Back Marcelo for the semi-final return leg against Chelsea as the Brazilian had been elected to work during Local Elections Madrid.
According to El Mundo Election committee in Spain randomly select people to work at polling stations, Marcelo along with Madrid youngster Victor Chust have been selected. People under the age of 70 are all eligible to be selected and it would be a serious felony to avoid these duties. Marcelo may finish his duties in time to travel to London but due to Covid-19 protocols, it would be impossible for him to join his team.
Marcelo has lost his place as the first choice Left Back to Ferland Mendy over the past couple of seasons but has featured in the last 3 games because of the Frenchman's injury. Mendy is expected to be fit for the game against Chelsea which is a silver lining for Zidane. But if Mendy isn't fit then Zidane will have all sorts of problems.
Both Marcelo and Real Madrid have appealed to the electoral board. In 2019 Levante goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez was excused from his duty because it clashed with his team's game against Athletico Bilbao. Zidane will be hoping that the same will be done again and he will have Marcelo available for selection.
