Hungary will be making a third consecutive appearance in the Euros for the first time in their history. Hoping to make it out of a challenging Group A containing the hosts Germany, Marco Rossi has named his 26-player for the tournament. The manager is counting on the tournament experience of certain players in the squad to take them through and also on their creative captain Dominik Szoboszlai. In addition, Hungary will also face Switzerland and Scotland in the group so a strong performance will be required from them in the competition again.
History
Hungary have appeared in four UEFA European Championships before playing the 2024 edition. Their third-place finish in their debut campaign back in 1964 remains their best showing so far. Known as the European Nations' Cup back then, it was contested by only four teams with Hungary losing in the semifinals to eventual winners Spain but winning the Bronze final by beating Denmark 3-1. The Magyars finished fourth in the next edition having the same format. They had to wait for over 50 years after that to make it into the competition again. In the last edition, Hungary was put in a group of death with the then World Cup winners France, Euro holders Portugal and three-time winners Germany. Despite throwing up an excellent fight in all three matches, Marco Rossi’s side had to settle for the bottom spot.

In no way could Hungary have left out Szoboszlai from the squad, despite a drop in form on his return from injury earlier this year. The 23-year-old made a positive start to his life with Liverpool since joining the club last summer but ended up with only nine goal contributions in the past season. However, he scored four goals in the qualifying period with three strikes in his last three games for his national team. The midfielder remains an integral part of the team's plan in the competition with his technical ability and creativity required for a side that will be more defensive and hit on the counter. Szoboszlai expects to hit his peak form at the right time to inspire Hungary in the competition.
