In the summer transfer window, Gareth Bale joined Tottenham Hotspur on a one year loan after being out of favour at Real Madrid for the previous season. Under Zinedine Zidane Bale only played 20 matches in the 2019/20 season. The same season the Welshman was directly involved in just 5 goals with the Royal white jersey.
Now on loan in North London Bale has been in and out of Jose Mourinho's side. The inconsistency of Bale's selection may well be due to his injury history. The winger has played 90 minutes on only one occasion that too in an FA Cup match against 2nd Division club Wycombe. Bale has proved his quality on many occasions this season having reached double-digits in goals this season.
Currently playing the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with Wales, Bale started the game against Belgium and came off the bench against Mexico in a friendly match.
Gareth Bale in a press conference was asked about his future to which the wing wizard replied:
"I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost. Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid. My plan is to go back, that's as far I have planned."
Tottenham Hotspur fans would are not very happy with the Welshman's comments in which he clearly stated that game time and vision of the Euros was the only reason for his return to Spurs. According to Spanish media, Real Madrid have no intentions of having Bale as a part of their squad next season.
The return of Bale is not a part of President Florentino Perez's plan who has his eyes set on Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Bale's comments have more or less ruled out the possibility of an extended stay in North London. Real Madrid have tried to offload Bale on many occasions but have failed to do so.
Real Madrid simply cannot afford to pay Bale his mammoth wage for another season just for the winger to sit on the sidelines. A managerial change is the only thing that might suggest Bale's return to the Bernabeu as he was out of Zidane's plans for a while before he left. A lot would depend on Gareth Bale's performance in the rest of the season as well as the Euros.
