By finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last season, Borussia Dortmund grabbed the final spot of the expanded Champions League group stage from Germany. Selling their star Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid was the prime reason for their poor show in the league but the Black and Yellows made sure their performance on the European front was different. The team reached the Champions League final after 11 years under Erin Terzic, losing 2-0 to the winners Real Madrid. Despite positive showing, Terzic decided to leave his job at the club by his own request resulting in his assistant and former player Nuri Sahin taking over the managerial role.
Dortmund sold star striker Niclas Füllkrug this summer but the addition of eye-catching signings like Pascal Gross should inspire the side ahead of starting the campaign on 24 August 2024. The eight-time Bundesliga winners face Eintracht Frankfurt, the side they beat for Champions League football this season, at Signal Iduna Park for the opener. They face a top-four rival in VFB Stuttgart in September and RB Leipzig in November. The first Der Klassiker of the season against Bayern Munich is a home fixture later that month. The first game of the New Year also brings a colossal challenge as they face the defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, also at home.
