Bayer Leverkusen under legendary player Xabi Alonso achieved an unprecedented feat in the Bundesliga last season. The club won their first-ever league title by breaking the decade-old dominance of Bayern Munich and they also became the first German team to do it without losing a single game. The historical season also contained a DFB Pokal triumph but Die Werkself missed out on a sensational treble after losing the Europa League final to Atalanta. That was the only defeat Leverkusen suffered, proving the extraordinary work done by their Spanish manager who lifted the club from the relegation doldrums to the summit in just two seasons.
To the delight of the supporters, Alonso has committed himself to the club fending off interest from other parties. With him remaining on the touchline, Leverkusen will start their title defence in the 2024/25 season on 24 August 2024. The league opener is against Mönchengladbach before RB Leipzig visits them for the first home game of the campaign the following weekend. The big clash against title rivals Bayern Munich falls on 28 September 2024 making it a tough schedule early. The team also have a difficult ending to the campaign with Dortmund to face in the penultimate game. However, Leverkusen is confident of another stunning campaign ahead by retaining the winning squad and winning the first piece of silverware in the DFB Super Cup.
