In competitive El Clasico meetings, Barcelona might have fewer wins than Real Madrid but leads the fixture in overall meetings. Among them are some sensational victories the Catalan giants have registered over their rivals this century. In those matches, the Blaugranas played mind-blowing football asserting their philosophy of free-flowing football and ended up with league titles in those seasons. From the era of 2010 dominance, MSN heroics to modern-day pace settlers guided by the best coaches have all administered these eye-catching results over the years.
Here are the biggest wins Barcelona registered in the league this century:
Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (26 October 2024)
The first El Clasico of the 2024-25 season was unpredictable. Both sides were in top form, leaders Barcelona crushing opponents at will while holders Real Madrid remained unbeaten ahead of the clash. However, Hansi Flick’s team showed that their position on top of the table is no fluke by stunning Carlo Ancelotti's men at Santiago Bernabeu, smashing four goals past them for an electrifying victory. A dominant second-half show saw top-scorer Robert Lewandowski scoring a quick-fire brace before Lamine Yamal and Raphinha joined the party to establish a six-point lead at the top. Kylian Mbappe twice rippled the net but he was flagged offside while Inaki Pena expertly saved his other efforts on goal. The statement win, one of the biggest margins in El Clasico history, makes Barcelona the favorites to win the La Liga title. On the other hand, Real needs to gain a lot of ground to defend their title after seeing their 42-game unbeaten streak in the league snapped.
Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (20 March 2022)
Barcelona won by the same scoreline just two years ago against Carlo Ancelloti-led Real Madrid with club legend Xavi Hernández as manager then. Los Blancos was leading the chart comfortably while Xavi’s men were struggling to produce a challenge for the title. But on that night of prestige, Barcelona managed to shine, outpacing the leaders who had their star striker Karim Benzema injured and lacked an edge in attack. Despite an initial flurry from the hosts, the Blaugranas took charge once Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the opener just before the half-hour mark. Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres got on the act later before the Gabon international to put the sealer in the 51st minute. Despite their best efforts, Real Madrid failed to make a comeback into the match while the visitors too missed several chances to make the scoreline more humiliating for their rivals. Even though the side from the Spanish capital won the league that season, this defeat has pinched them.
Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid (28 October 2018)
The first El Clasico without the team’s icons Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo since 2009 at Camp Nou was worth remembering. The latter moved to Juventus in the summer of 2018 while Messi suffered a fractured arm in the previous game but it was clear which side was plagued without their superstar’s presence. Barcelona looked frightening even without their superstar with his Uruguayan friend Luis Suárez recording a memorable hattrick after Philippe Coutinho’s opener inside just 11 minutes and Arturo Vidal’s game-sealing header. Marcelo’s 50-minute strike to make it 2-1 was quickly forgotten as Madrid struggled to sustain the opposition’s ruthless attack. Barcelona went on to seal the title in a dominating style but Real Madrid finished disappointingly in third, suffering the most losses with 12 among the top five teams that term.
Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (21 November 2015)
One of the best performances by Barcelona in El Clasico history came in the 2015 season during the era of MSN - Messi, Suárez and Neymar at the club, probably the best-attacking trio in football history. Messi did not play this Classico from the start due to injury but in his absence, Suárez once again lit up with his goal a-piece in each half while the Brazilian starred with a goal and an assist. Midfield general Andres Iniesta, who detected the entire game, came up with a sublime strike as a reward for his efforts. Real Madrid was nowhere to be seen in the match as Luis Enrique’s Barca’s short high-tempo passing left them clueless. To make matters worse, Isco was sent off in the 84th minute to force Los Blancos to end the game with a player down. Barcelona’s sizzling football helped them with a La Liga title although their late slumber did allow the rivals to gain some ground in the chase as they only finished a point above them.
Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (29 November 2010)
Another historic result set by Barcelona in El Clásico was in 2010 when they drubbed their rivals 5-0, showing no mercy. It was also a clash between two masterminds Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho making it more special. Although both sides had some top individuals like prime Cristiano Ronaldo, young Mesut Özil and Di Maria, the host had the 2010 World Cup winning class. Except for Messi and Dani Alves, the other nine enjoyed their triumph in South Africa. Guardiola’s side came out with flying colors in this clash with future manager Xavi Hernández beginning the scoring in the 10th minute. Pedro doubled up the lead with just eight minutes to go and one of the top scorers in the World Cup, David Villa netted a quick-brace in the second half after he assisted the winger. Messi assisted both Villa’s goals before substitute Jeffren Suarez rounded off the five-star performance. The scoreline was humiliating to watch for Mourinho’s men, considering they came into this fixture on the back of seventh straight victories, as they also lost Sergio Ramos at the end through a direct send-off in the angry exchanges that happened post-match. This was the humiliating defeat the Portuguese suffered in his managerial career.
Real Madrid 2-6 Barcelona (2 May 2009)
However, the biggest win in El Classico this century was a year prior when Guardiola's side played an eight-goal thriller with Real Madrid. It was a ‘Messi show’ which became quite messy for his opponents. The victory tasted even sweeter because the 6-2 result in the Classico brought them the domestic league title. Gonzalo Higuaín’s 14th-minute opener at Santiago Bernabeu was quickly canceled out by Thierry Henry to lay the path for Carles Puyol to give the lead two minutes later with Messi extending it just before half-time after setting up the equalizer with a beautiful chip. Ramos reduced the deficit to 3-2 right in the 56th minute from an Arjen Robben free-kick but all threats of a nervy ending were quashed with the visitors turning up the gear. Once again, Henry had a quick reply to a Madrid goal alongside the mercurial Argentinian making it five to all but end the host’s comeback dream. Center-back Piqué, who did not put a foot wrong in the entire match, was rewarded for his performance with a late goal to put the icing on the cake.
