Atletico Madrid clinched a Champions League spot in the 2022/23 La Liga season by finishing third after a great run this year. They were 11 points behind the top spot but finished just a point away from their city rivals Real Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side will hope to produce more from their game in the 2023/24 season and possibly challenge the title dominance of Madrid and Barcelona. Improvement in the European stage is also required after failing at the group stages of the Champions League.

Los Rojiblancos start their new season in La Liga against promoted side Granada at the Wanda Metropolitano on 13 August 2023. Four games after the opener, aside from a clash against Sevilla, Atletico will face their first major test in the form of the Madrid derby on 24 September 2023. The reverse derby is dated on 4th February 2024. Their first clash against Barcelona is on December 3rd with the reverse fixture scheduled in Match 17th next year. Atletico end their season, also at home, facing fellow Champions League side Real Sociedad on 26th May 2023.
