Involved in a close run for the WSL title, Arsenal came way short at the end with 11 points behind the top place and saw London rivals Chelsea triumph again last season. They eventually finished third grabbing the final qualification spot for the Women’s Champions League. However, the club suffered disappointment early in the new campaign by getting knocked out from the first round of qualifiers in the continental competition.
Putting aside the disappointments, Jonas Eideval’s team will be hoping to mount a proper challenge this time around with a series of star signings secured in the summer. Arsenal will begin the 2023/24 season against Liverpool at a packed Emirates Stadium on the first day of October before engaging them with a spicy battle against possible title contenders Manchester United at Leigh Sports six days after. It will be a homecoming fixture for striker Alessia Russo who switches alliances this summer. Back at the Emirates to face Rachel Daly led Aston Villa with eye-catching transfers too making it a very difficult beginning for the Gunners.
At the start of November, Manchester City will throw up a strong challenge as they look to improve from last season. The clash is at home as well but this time hosted in Meadow Park. Arsenal will have an eventful period in the final month of the year. They will first welcome holders Chelsea in a cracking London derby on 10th December. Before making the trip to Brisbane Road the next weekend for the North-London derby against Tottenham Hotspurs.
The New Year will also pose some defining fixture especially in March. The Gunners will play United and Spurs in reverse fixtures back-to-back time at home then making a daunting trip to face the champions at Stamford Bridge. They will be travelling again to face Aston Villa. The final two fixtures of the 2023/24 season will ask a lot from the 2018-19 WSL winners as Arsenal hope Manchester City away and Brighton at home do not derail their chances of the title if they are in contention by then.
