Spending an era of doldrums after the 2012 Euro win, Spain are looking to return to their glory days by reaching the Euro 2024 final defeating France 2-1 in the semifinals. The Nations League winners stand the chance to be the outright winners of the competition with four titles if they triumph in Berlin on Sunday, having shared the record for most title wins with Germany. The hosts were among the opposition La Roja slewed in their unprecedented six-game winning streak in the tournament to reach the showpiece. Looking at their form, it seems more than a mere possibility.
Here is the list of all Euro finals Spain has played so far:
Spain 2-1 Soviet Union (1964 European Nations' Cup Final)
The first title triumph for Spain came in their debut European Championship played on their home soil. Known as the European Nations' Cup back then, it was only the second edition of the competition with just four teams participating. La Roja produced their best with the squad containing legends like Luis Suarez Miramontes in 1964 after failing to qualify for the inaugural edition. Eliminating a strong Hungary team in the semis, they locked horns with defending champions, the Soviet Union in the final. Star of the tournament, Chus Pereda found the net for back-to-back matches in just the sixth minute of the showpiece but the lead was short-lived with Salikhovich Khusainov equalising moments later. However, Spain had the last laugh with Marcelino Martínez scoring a headed winner in the 84th minute.
France 2-0 Spain (Euro 1984 Final)
Spain did not return to the Euros until 1980 or reach a final until 1984. The team managed by legendary coach Miguel Muñoz topped their group in the latter edition on goal difference ahead of Iberian rivals Portugal, Germany and Romania. Despite playing out a 1-1 draw in the first two matches, a last-minute 1-0 win over Germany helped them face a runners-up from the other group in the semifinals. Coming from behind to win in a penalty shootout against Denmark, Spain failed to display the same against a star-studded France in the final. La Roja lost their second final after Les Bleus broke the deadlock in the second half through Michel Platini and settled the win with a second goal by Bruno Bellone.
Spain 1-0 Germany (Euro 2008 Final)
After failing to go past the quarter final stage in the next four participations, Spain reached the final for the third time 24 years later with the golden generation to start an era of dominance in international football history. The 2008 Euro triumph was the first of three consecutive major final wins for the side and Spain managed it without losing a single game. Topping their group with ease and beating arch-rivals Italy in a shootout, the only time they failed to score, Luis Aragonés's side reached the final after defeating Russia in the semifinal. The 44-year wait for an international title was over after Fernando Torres’s lob over Jens Lehmann proved to be the difference.
Spain 4-0 Italy (Euro 2012 Final)
Claiming the 2010 World Cup, Spain created another incredible record by becoming the first and only side to have successfully defended their Euro title. They did so by registering the biggest margin of win in the final game in the competition's history. Once again La Roja arrived at the scene unscratched and defeated the likes of France and Portugal in the knockouts before facing arch-rivals Italy in the showpiece. Managed by Del Bosque, the team played out a 1-1 draw in the group stage meeting earlier but there was no such scene this time. Interestingly that was the only goal conceded by Spain in the entire tournament as they bulldozed their opposition with Fernando Torres scoring for consecutive finals alongside David Silva, Jordi Alba and Juan Mata to land the silverware.
