The 2020 summer transfer window has been a strange one to say the least. With the coronavirus pandemic seriously impacting the spending capacity of European clubs, we haven’t seen as many mega money deals as compared to previous seasons.
However we take a look at some of the deals that can be completed before the transfer window slams shut on October 5.
1. Jadon Sancho (Dortmund) to Manchester United:
The longest rumbling transfer saga of 2020 looks set to go down to the wire. Manchester United have been long term admirers of Sancho and their bid of 100 million Euros was rejected by Borussia Dortmund. United fans have criticized the club’s transfer policy in recent years and that has put added pressure on the United hierarchy to complete a deal for the winger. What remains to be seen is can United match the 120 million euros valuation for Jadon Sancho and seal the deal?
2. Houssem Aouar (Lyon) to Arsenal:
After eye-catching displays in the UEFA Champions League, Houssem Aouar was on the radar of clubs like Manchester City and Juventus. However Arsenal seem to be leading the race for the Frenchman’s signature. Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a creative midfielder to freshen the engine room and Aouar seems to be the man. Lyon are in a difficult position financially and looking to sell their prized asset. The main question which remains is Arsenal’s inability to sell players to free transfer budget and match Lyon’s valuation.
3. Alex Telles (Porto) to Manchester United:
Alex Telles, the Brazilian left-back has been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add some much needed depth in defence and Alex Telles has caught the eye of the United scouts. A fee in the region of 20 million Euros is been rumored for the Porto man which in the current market could prove to be a smart purchase for Manchester United
4. Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid) to Arsenal:
It seems to be pretty clear that Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen the midfield area and what Thomas Partey adds is much needed steel which Arsenal have been lacking since Patrick Vieira left the club. The Ghanian has a 50 million Euros release clause and Arsenal are looking to bring that down by offering Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira in exchange. Atletico Madrid seem reluctant to lower the release clause but any deal would hinge on the future of Torreira and other departures from Arsenal.
5. Sergino Dest (Ajax) to Barcelona:
The 19 year old Right-back had a breakthrough season for Ajax and has caught the eye of teams like Bayern Munich and Barcelona. After the departure of Nelson Semedo to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Barcelona were in the market for a new right-back. Bayern looked set to complete his signature but Barcelona hijacked with a bid of 20 million Euros. Ronald Koeman seems to be a big fan of Dest and seems to be a future right-back regular for Blaugrana.
6. Declan Rice (West Ham) to Chelsea:
After more than 200 million of transfer outlay, one might assume that Chelsea are done with more incomings in their squad. However, Declan Rice who played for Chelsea youth teams seems to be a transfer target for Frank Lampard. Rice can add much needed steel to Chelsea’s midfield and can also provide cover at Center Back. West Ham seem reluctant to sell their star man and a mammoth bid from Chelsea could pave the way for Declan Rice back to his boyhood club.
7. Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona) to Manchester United:
Ousmane Dembele has had an injury ravaged career at Barcelona which has hindered his natural talent. The former Dortmund winger seems surplus to requirements at Barcelona given his injury record. Dembele is seen as an alternative for Manchester United if they don’t get their number one target Jadon Sancho. If Dembele ends up in the red half of Manchester and can keep himself fit, the United faithful could be in for a real treat.
