2023-24 UEFA Women’s Nations League Finals draw, teams and fixtures

The draw for the finals of the 2023-24 UEFA Women’s Nations League was conducted on Monday, 11 December 2023. The four teams group winners from League A – Women’s World Cup winners Spain, Netherlands, France and Germany have made it to the finals to crown the first-ever champions of the tournament. The knockout stage of the Nations League will have the semi-finals, a third-place fight and the final. The competition's finals will be played on 23–28 February 2024.

The two teams qualifying for the final match or the showpiece of the inaugural Women’s Nations League will also make a place in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. As France are the host of the Olympics, the other finalists and the third-place teams of the Nations League will qualify for Paris if the Les Bleues make it to the final. This is because only three teams from Europe are allowed to participate in the Olympic Women’s Football Tournament. The finals are played as single-leg knockout matches, with each game hosted by the teams drawn at home.

Participating Teams

Spain

Spain continued their fine form of winning the Women’s World Cup by topping their League A group in dominating fashion. La Roja finished five points above second-placed Italy by winning five of the six games available and scoring a staggering 23 goals, the most in the tournament. Spain will be hoping to make the Olympics for the very first time.

France

As hosts of the Olympics 2024, Herve Renard’s France will simply aim to etch their name as the maiden Women’s Nations League winners. Les Bleues came out of the group stages unscratched, without losing a match and collecting 16 points. Stunningly, they conceded just one goal in the entire period and dropped point only once.

Netherlands

It took till the final round of games for the Netherlands to confirm their place in the Finals. They were in stiff competition with England and Belgium for the top spot in their group. Ultimately, the Dutch finished first ending with same points as the second-placed Lionesses but beating them on goal difference.

Germany

Germany were also in a close fight with Denmark to take the first place in the group. Eventually, Die Nationalelf finished a point above the Dane to qualify for the Finals having lost the opener to the second-placed side. The German triumphed in the reverse fixture though and Denmark also shockingly lost to Iceland in the final group game to make their way easier.

Semifinal 1

Spain vs Netherlands

The first semi-final match of the inaugural Women’s Nations League will be a rematch of the quarterfinal played at the 2023 Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand early this year. Spain snatched an extra-time winner through Salma Paralluelo to win the tie 2-1 dramatically in their road to eventually crown themselves champions. Netherlands have also lost this fixture the last four times.

Semifinal 2

France vs Germany

Another mouthwatering clash involves another Women’s World Cup quarterfinalist France taking on Germany who exited from the tournament's group stages. Germany beat the 2024 Olympics hosts in the last meeting in 2022 and in the last six major competitions meetings, the World Cup and Euros combined. France will be aiming to put an end to that record to enter the final of a major tournament for the first time in their history.
