PUN vs HFC Match Preview
Punjab FC would not have come any closer to securing their first win of the ISL season since their promotion to the top flight. That too against Shield holders Mumbai City FC away after leading for 82 minutes from a strike by last season’s I-League top scorer Luka Majcen. But then a rocket equalizer from Greg Stewart and Jorge Diaz sneaking in the winner only seconds after took the game away from the visitors. It was an enormous effort put in by the Shers following their 5-1 mauling at Chennai but they had nothing to show for it at the end. Staikos Vergetis will think the performance at least encouraged the team to seal the much-needed victory in only their second home game of the season. Punjab FC played a 1-1 draw against North United in the first game at Delhi, the first of only two points so far, so will be hopeful for a positive outcome again having struggled in away games.
Hyderabad FC were also close to sealing their first victory of the season instead they had to settle for a consecutive 1-1 draw against Bengaluru FC this time at home. Mohammad Yasir’s first goal of the season in the 35th minute was cancelled out by Ryan Williams’s strike in the second half. Head coach Thangboi Singto will mark the recent results as progress with the Nizams not falling on the losing side anymore. However, Hyderabad FC have to find ways of winning games and stop leaking goals although they have not leaked many. They have not scored many either finding the net only three times in six games with two in the last two games itself. The former ISL winners have got the chance now to put things facing the bottom-placed Punjab FC in the away trip. A win will not put them into the top six but narrow the gap to three points which will be very welcoming.
