ODI vs MBG Match Preview
Odisha FC will be returning to action after two weeks since playing out a 1-1 draw against FC Goa at Kalinga Stadium. With the next fixture at home as well, the Juggernauts will once again engage themselves in a clash against an ISL Shield contender in Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Sergio Lobera’s men are leading the chart with 31 points, two points better than their opposition in second but having played a game more, carrying a 11-game unbeaten streak in the ISL. The team has also lost just twice since October and will be confident of stretching their lead at the top with the home advantage in place. Although Odisha FC has not beaten Mohun Bagan in the league, they triumphed in the AFC Cup group match played in Kolkata. The 5-2 victory for the Kalinga Warriors eliminated the Mariners from the contest and eventually paved their way to the knockouts.
That defeat and a series of other disappointing results in the league put an end to Juan Ferrando’s tenure at Mohun Bagan Super Giant. However, Bagan’ boat caught wind in the sail after Antonio Lopez Habas returned for a second stint at the club. The Green and Maroons made an unbeaten start to the second period of the ISL, with a victory in the last three matches, to reintegrate themselves in the race for the Shield. They defeated NorthEast United in a 4-2 goal-fest at Salt Lake which pulled them to the second spot. Comeback is what they needed in the reverse fixture as well to draw against Odisha FC from two goals down at half-time while the Mariners took a 4-0 resounding win in the AFC Cup meeting at Kalinga last year. Any form of victory will do for Mohun Bagan to make them probably the favourites to lift the title at the end.
