MBG vs JFC Match Preview
Mohun Bagan missed the chance of overtaking Odisha FC to the top of the ISL table after they shared points with them at the Kalinga Stadium. Striker Armando Sadiku squandered golden opportunities in the match while a lacklustre show from Dimi Petratos meant the Green and Maroon remained two points behind the leaders in third. Habas’s side will hope to return to winning ways at home to claim the top spot this time but a spirited Jamshedpur FC team stands in their way. The three points will also be crucial for the hosts ahead of playing the Kolkata derby and a daunting trip to Kochi to face Kerala Blasters in consecutive fixtures. A late penalty from Hugo Boumous, not in the team right now, made the difference in the last encounter in Kolkata but Mohun Bagan has no willingness to make the situation hard.
Jeremy Manzorro unleashed another of his magical free-kicks to score a spectacular last-minute winner for Jamshedpur FC in the 2-1 success over East Bengal. The Frenchman became only the second player in the ISL, after Elano Blumer of Chennaiyin FC, to score in consecutive games from free-kicks with the first two coming in the 4-0 victory over Punjab FC. Trailing from a first-half strike by Nandha Kumar even after dominating the half, Rei Tachikawa’s sublime equalizing header brought them into the game before Daniel Chima earned the foul for the winner. Manzorro’s heroics over a playoff rival pulled the Men of Steel into the top six and the visitors will rely on him again to claim the win against another of Khalid Jamil’s ex-clubs. Jamshedpur FC wishes to stretch their unbeaten start to 2024 to six games with a win on Friday and to solidify the sixth spot.
