Trailing 3-1 with 20 minutes left on the watch, Hyderabad FC made a remarkable comeback against East Bengal with Javier Siverio scoring his second of the evening after heading in the first-half equalizer. It was substitute Abdul Rabeeh who saved the last year’s ISL champions from disappointment by drawing the match level in the 83rd minute. The Spaniard will want the usual solidity back for the team while taking on Odisha FC in the final group match of the Hero Super Cup 2023. A must-win game for Hyderabad FC if they are to progress further into the competition and probably win it to give their departing head coach one last trophy in black and yellow.
Odisha FC also put them into contention for the top spot in the group with a sublime 3-0 victory over Aizawl FC in the second group stage match. Diego Mauricio, Victor Rodriguez and Nandha Kumar coming off the bench all scored in the second half to make sure the Juggernauts settled their place in the semi-finals. Mauricio’s penalty in stoppage time was saved by Aizawl keeper Vanlalhriatpuia but the Brazilian will be happy to get among the goals again. Clifford Miranda’s side now places them in a straight fight with Hyderabad FC to win the group. Both sides have won this meeting at home in the ISL this season but the fixture on Monday is a different encounter altogether. Odisha FC would like to make it back-to-back wins against Hyderabad FC because a draw, especially if it is goalless, will put their qualification into jeopardy provided East Bengal win their early kick-off against Aizawl FC although this fixture always had goals in them.
