BFC vs PUN Match Preview
Another away game, another poor outing for Bengaluru FC as they only managed to draw 1-1 against NorthEast United in Guwahati. This was their third draw in four games and it was the second time they failed to win while leading the game this season. Sunil Chhetri’s 36th-minute spot-kick put the Blues in front but an own goal from Aleksandar Jovanovic at the stroke of half-time brought the scores level. It remained the same at the end and Bengaluru FC remained out of playoff places in seventh. The team could change their form with a victory against bottom side Punjab FC in the home match with only three points away from the top five spots. The only win for Bengaluru FC this season has come at Kanteerava. Simon Grayson’s team are also unbeaten against the promoted side having won the Super Cup encounter last year and a draw and a win in the only two I-League meetings.
All of this is not a good reading for Punjab FC who failed to hold on to their lead for consecutive games by drawing 1-1 with fellow strugglers Hyderabad FC. The I-league winners thought they finally found a way for their first-ever ISL win when Juan Mera struck in the 82nd minute in only their second home game at Delhi. However, substitute Jonathan Moya found the equalizer for the visitors with a close-range header at the very end of the match. Playing their third draw out of seven games so far this season, Punjab FC failed to move away from the bottom spot. Now again on the travel, with just a point collected in five away matches, Staikos Vergetis’s worry remains their leaky defence which has conceded 11 as visitors. Suspension in the back four has also not helped the squad conflicting their wish for an upset on Thursday.
BFC vs PUN Team News
Bengaluru FC will have a fully fit squad available with Roshan Singh returning from suspension in the last game. Defender Dimitrios Chatziisaias is back available for the guests but Melroy Assisi will serve the last of his three-match ban after showing a straight red in the embarrassing defeat against Chennaiyin FC last month.
