Bengaluru FC vs Jamshedpur FC (BFC vs JFC) Match Preview
Bengaluru FC turned to their former assistant coach Gerard Zaragoza to see the rest of the season with his deal running until the 2024-25 campaign. The Spaniard’s appointment comes on the back of the club’s decision to part ways with Simon Grayson. The Blues have struggled badly this season picking up just one win in 10 matches, losing half of them and sitting ninth on the table with five points away from playoff places. It was a drastic fall for the side that reached three major finals last season under the Englishman, winning the Durand Cup for the first time, with the 4-0 loss to Mumbai City last week ending his tenure at the club. Grayson’s sacking had no impact on the squad as they lost 2-0 to Chennaiyin FC two days ago. It shows the amount of work Zaragoza has to put in from the defence, to midfield and to the attack with the winter window in mind to shake up the entire squad. He will try to give an instant result for the club he oversaw the only ISL triumph in 2018-19 as an assistant coach and will welcome Jamshedpur FC at home for his first test being a head coach.
Things are also not better on Jamshedpur FC’s front with fear of another disappointing season looming large. The Men of Steels are positioned a lowly tenth on the ISL table, a place down Bengaluru FC, failing to win more than once and taking just six points so far. Scott Cooper’s team also required a late scramble to avoid a fifth straight defeat in the ISL in the 2-2 draw against Chennaiyin FC as well. Trailing by two goals till the 40th minute, Pachuau’s header from a corner on the stroke of half-time gave the home side some belief before Daniel Chima levelled the score in second-half stoppage time. While JFC’s fighting spirit at the Furnace has been credible, their away form has provided more question marks having lost all but one on the trip. They have failed to win in their last two trips to Kanteerava since winning the first-ever meeting against Bengaluru FC over there while suffering defeats in each of the last four fixtures against them in all competitions. It does not provide a good reading for the visitors who will also face Hyderabad FC and Odisha two more away games to end 2023.
