BAY vs LEP Match Preview
Numerous times in their decade-old dominance in the Bundesliga Bayern Munich went to clinch the title at this moment of the season comfortably. After a long time, the Bavarians are facing real competition from their rivals Borussia Dortmund in fear of losing the grip on the Meisterschale this season. Their own inconsistency leading to a managerial change in midseason added with the Black and Yellow not fading away like before has produced this breathtaking race for supremacy in Germany. Bayern still have destiny in their own hands with a point lead at the top and will grab an 11th consecutive league honor if they win the final two games of the season. Getting past RB Leipzig in the last home game should be the sole remaining big challenge in their way before facing Koln in the concluding match with the opposition having nothing to play for. Stumbling a bit in the early games under Thomas Tuchel, opening up grounds for Dortmund, Bayern have turned their fortunes in the last three league matches winning with an aggregate score of 10-1. They demolish Schalke 6-0 in the previous match maintaining their sensational unbeaten record at home with this their 11th win of the season at Allianz Arena. Also not losing any meeting against Leipzig at home, only one in the overall meeting, should help although Die Roten won just once at this venue in the last three face-offs.
Marco Rose has done a fine job at RB Leipzig by saving them from turmoil in September last year and putting them on course for Champions League football next season. His team has been praised for their brilliant attacking style of play with the trident of Dominik Szoboszlai, Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner firing on all cylinders. Emil Forsberg and Dani Olmo have also demonstrated their class on the pitch. Leipzig finds themselves third on the table for their efforts carrying a four-point lead over fifth-place Freiburg. They will be able to secure a top-four berth without kicking a ball if Christian Streich’s side loses against Wolfsburg in the Friday night kickoff but it won’t limit their hopes of denting Bayern’s persisting title defense. On top of that, successfully defending their DFB Pokal title next month against Eintracht Frankfurt will put the cherry on top of a memorable campaign. Set to face relegation-threatened Schalke in the final match of the season, Rose’s men will at least try to avoid defeat against the league leaders whom they drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture. Otherwise, things could become nervy if both Freiburg and Union Berlin secure victory in the penultimate weekend and they don’t. Leipzig are carrying a four-game winning run in all competitions into the fixture after defeating Werder Bremen 2-1 the last weekend but it was not at all comfortable. Despite dominating the possession of the ball and creating loads of scoring chances, the visitors got into the lead in the 70th minute after Nkunku’s opener was ruled out by VAR for a foul. It forced a comeback from the home side with Willie Orban heading in the equalizer before Szoboszlai grabbed the last-ditch winner.
