USA Defends Lowest ODI Total in History

Oman vs USA ODI made history in the ODI format, where the United States recorded the lowest total successfully defended by beating India’s 40-year-old record. The match also experienced the joint record for the most wickets by the spinners in an ODI match as well as a new record for the least overs delivered by the pacers in a completed ODI match.

USA defended 122 runs against the hosts Oman

It was the crucial ODI between the hosts Oman and the visitors USA, as the match was part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2. After Oman chose to bowl first at Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1), the USA were all out for 122 runs. Among the American batters, only Milind Kumar managed to reach the 20-run mark with a valuable 47 not out off 82 balls with six fours.

Among the Oman bowlers, Shakeel Ahmed (3/20) took three wickets while Aamir Kaleem (2/22) and Samay Shrivastav (2/41) got two wickets each. Jay Odedra (1/23) and Siddharth Bukkapatnam (1/11) picked up one wicket each, and the last batter Nosthush Kenjige was run out for a duck.

USA spinners took all ten wickets as Oman were bundled out for only 65 runs, while the USA won by 57 runs. Only Hammad Mirza (29) reached the double-digit score in that innings. Among the American spinners, Nosthush Kenjige claimed a fifer (5/11), while Milind Kumar (2/17) and Yasir Mohammad (2/10) got two wickets each, and Harmeet Singh (1/25) had the other one wicket.

Lowest defended ODI total: USA broke India's 40-year-old record

While the USA defended the 122-run target, they beat India’s previous record of the lowest defended total in an ODI match without reducing any overs of the match. During the Rothmans Four-Nations Cup 1985 opener between India and Pakistan in Sharjah, India were all out for 125 runs, and Pakistan were later bundled out for only 87 runs.

First time in ODI history: No pacers in a completed ODI match

Meanwhile, the pacers didn’t deliver a ball in the ODI match. While it was the 4671st completed ODI match (the match had a result), it was the first time in the format’s history that we experienced no delivery from the pacers in a completed ODI.

As per the previous completed ODI records, the previous least deliveries record by the pacers in a completed ODI was 12 balls or two overs during the Oman vs Namibia match just two days ago (16 February 2025).
